can anybody tell me what the orange patch cable is in this video? If you have them are they reliable?

Also who makes the flat jack ones?...I am sure I have seen them but cannot remember the name.

the orange one is a hosa if i'm not mistaken. i have tons of them, they are "cheap" cables but theyve been super reliable to me.

the flat ones that youre talking about can also be found by hosa as well. they are really cheap and works really good for me.

both of them are usually sold in batches of like 6 or 8.

yeah, i have a metric shit-ton of the small pancake-jack Hosas and have never had a problem with them. i'd never be able to fit my stuff on the board without them...i have a Pedaltrain 1 with a top tier, a bottom tier, and stuff turned sideways in between. thirteen stomps and a volume pedal.

what they said. the Soldersound you could do cheaper by buying the parts and wrapping them yourself, for close to each other pedz the Hosa stuff is super cheap and works a charm.

I even see a bit of variation in the pancake style ones. You can buy then for as little as a dollar but Switchcraft versions of those sell for as much as $4.
I like the idea of making my own cables as it would give a certain amount of satisfaction.
I use a flat pedalboard rather than a pedaltrain so excess cable looks more untidy.
The other issue I has was I tried a bullet slug kit but the cable was hard to bend round corners.

Would I encounter the same problems? Probably from the same factory anyways.
I might make a mix of G&L plugs (they seem solid) and a few pancakes where needed.
It would be nice to get some skills!
Today a cable, tomorrow a BYOC and then who knows....

i'd like to do my own cables, but i trust anonymous Chinese folks to solder better than me. really, i'm not very good. better than the dude at Death by Audio, but not very good. i decided not to do custom-length cables for particular runs on the pedalboard because i saw very early on that i was going to be swapping stuff around constantly and i didn't want to get stuck with a bunch of odd lengths. "OK, now what the fuck do i do with two seven-point-five inch cords and a twenty-two inch cord?"

i only usually end up building cables for big junps on the pedalboard. i keep the signal chain simple usually. that makes where there's a bottom row all connected with pre made shorties, then just one longer cable to go from the last one on the bottom to the first on the top. not that big a deal that way. then if you're swapping a buch doesna really matter.

Haha. I did that, and that's exactly what happened to me. I have a shitload of different sized cables, with different ends, the ends pointing different ways, etc. Never a good idea.

Honestly, unless you're making high-end style cables for yourself, I don't really think building them is worth it anyways. Maybe if you've got a source for the best cable, and can't get it pre-built for a reasonable price, but otherwise it's just a lot of work and you don't save a ton of money.

But, you shouldn't really trust the random Chinese guys more than yourself. Open up any cheap assed guitar (or really... an electronics that have any wires inside) and you'll find some really terrible hand-soldering. Fortunately, as it turns out, great soldering isn't all that critical most of the time.

yeah. i guess it's not really the saving a few bucks, it's being able to lay them out exactly the right way to fit my need? i don't make a lot of cables, and i've been staring balefully at this pack of Lava's i got for a teeny tiny spot i have, but i've never really regretted having a bunch of odd length cables laying around.
