Or some kind of similar pedal? It was basically a wah that was set at a certain frequency. I really like the half cocked wah sound. It doesn't have to be a clone of the SP-1. A one knobed pedal to set the freq would be nice. Maybe I could just rehouse a wah? I dunno. PM me.

Yeah, but I think the Boss Spectrum has a mix control.

I think there are plenty of companies making fixed wahs, but the SP-1 supposedly has some kinda special mojo?

If I remember correctly, the SP-1 was actually a single-band semi-para EQ pedal, that for some reason got a ridiculous mojoz rep. I would think that any standard para eq circuit could do the same shiz.

What's the practical difference between a semi-para EQ and a band-pass filter?

Re: Can anyone make me a Boss SP-1 clone?
usually on a parametric eq you can play with the Q and the center frequency. in MOST wahs you cant fuck with the Q. IIRC Q = center frequency gain/3db bandwidth. so something with a higher Q emphasizes more, and has a higher rolloff in terms of attenuation.Think of it as the sharpness or Quality of the filter.
something with a high Q emphasizes a relatively narrow band a lot (so called high quality) while something with a low Q sort of emphasizes some fucking broad band like piece of low quality rubbish.
quality in this sense being completely subjective musically.
edit: any band pass filter has a Q rating. i just meant on most wahs you cant adjust it. it might not be the same at all settings but you cant do anything to change it. so in short there may not be much difference between a bandpass filter and a parametric eq.

Boss Area confirms that it is a parametric EQ

Thanks, guys.
I love shit like this.
One of my favorite pedals is the Pearl Thriller, which is a high-pass filter.

a real parametric EQ lets you do a bandpass or notch filter based on the gain of the center frequency. the center frequency is also adjustable. Q control is not required but it really makes for one powerful EQ. a wah or Q zone can not do notch filtering. that is the difference.
