Help, I'm stupid and can't wire my guitar like I want

Post by Achtane »

So here's my MSPaint art.

Image

I have three pickups, want on/off toggles for each one, and a single volume control.
I didn't draw the bridge wire, but...there's a bridge wire connected to the sleeve of the jack, and another wire attached to the sleeve that connects to the back of the pot, where everything else is grounded.
Or should be grounded.

But I get nothing. Do I need different switches or something...?

thats because when any of the 3 switches close in your drawing, all pickups become shorted.

try this?

Yeah, exactly how i wired one guitar with switches for each pickup. Think of the switch as if in one position, it continues your signal, and in the other, it breaks it off. So, you're just disconnecting one pickup by flipping the switch. Not like, however you did it initially. But keep pluggin' at it! I don't even know why I posted this. It's almost 4 AM! :thumb:

Yeah, what you wanna do is wire the hots of all the pickups together (then to the volume control), and wire the ground wires to one lug of the switch, and ground to the other. The switch will disconnect ground and turn off the pickup.

Or you can do it the way Multi-S did, where you just put the switch between the hot and volume control. Both ways will do the same thing.

Thanks a lot, guys. I see how it works now...dunno what the hell I was trying last night.
Also, I wired the volume pot in backwards, but it's staying there because I'm pretty sure my wiring will disintegrate if I lift up the pickguard again
