Slappin the bass.

Post by greeny23 »

Thinking of getting a reasonably cheap bass, mainly to test pedals on.

I have a Jazz Chorus, which are apparently good for bass from what i hear. Any suggestions for a good bass for $500AUD used or less..?
I'm thinking of an OLP type thing at the moment, but know NOTHING about basses.... yet.

I just rewired a friends' OLP 4 stringer (the passive one, one MM pickup at the bridge). It's alright, but nothing fantastic. Reminds me of a Jazz bass, but with the bridge pickup soloed. Good if that's what you're going for, but I'd look more at the Squier Classic Vibe or Vintage Modified series. I have a CV Jazz bass, and love it. My only complaint is that the pickups aren't very hot, so it plays a little different with distortion/OD than my Yamaha P/J with Dimarzios, but it's still an incredibly versatile bass, which is probably what you need for testing and such.

some sort of P or J bass. If you are getting it to test pedals then I'd say get something that most people know what they sound like.

If the neck is good, and you don't mind BETTY being scratched into it, looks solid to me.

I used to have a roadstar bass that was amazing. You can still get those for like 200 bux too.

I will, whole heartedly, recommend the Squier VM Jaguar bass. You get a PJ setup in a nice bass for a great price.

I don't know how it is in Australia, but here you can often find Mustang RIs for $500 or so, and those are RADD.
I've owned a bunch of dumb basses, and that's by far my favorite.

those Squier Classic Vibe Precisions are pretty ok, too. but really - MUSTANG.
Maybe partying will help.
