Boosts/Fuzzes/Drives, The Essentials.
There's a few pedals that my pedal addiction side says I should have on my board, but I don't really know if I should... do I need them? Probably not, do I want them? Well yeah... these would all be clones by the way.
So I need some advice, it's all boost, dirt & fuzz choices which is what makes it so tricky, I can't need them ALL.
-Super Hard On (had a clone once, kinda liked it, a boost is always handy I guess?)
-Dallas Rangemaster (Also had a clone, but of the Keeley Java Boost, I have the vintage germaniums for it... but sucky impeadance... yeah, no?)
-Fuzz Face (Only tried a silicon clone... pretty classic it is a nice tone, sucky with wah though)
-Fuzz Factory (Had a real one, it was useable and useless at the same time... I think my experimenty side wants this)
-Big Muff (Tried one once when I was modding it, just seems classic and I have some nice vintage trannies for it... not that they do anythig but look cool)
-OpAmp Big Muff (Smashing Pumpkins tone! I don't even really play any pumpkins but it is a slight counterpoint to the standard muff)
-ProCo Rat (Once again, tried it once, it's pretty sweet, got the 308 to make it... another classic)
-Tonebender MkII (Got the germaniums to make it, just sold my clone but I miss it... it's page in a box)
-Klon/Tube Screamer... just cause.
Unlike other effects a lot of these can probably cover the same ground... but pedulz....
So if you had to pick, what would you say is essential.

Its not on your list but I've always liked the Super Fuzz on its own and for stacking.

Well the super fuzz can double as a good stacker and as a octave fuzz with the tone switch. What kind of amp are you running?

Methinks:
Rat. Great as a low gain OD, and it adds mids and highs when boosting.
Muff. Duh.
Octave up fuzzy. Because I like teh icepick toanz.
And a Fuzz Factory. Fuck you guys, they're awesome.

I think everyone should have a Muff or Tone Bender, and everyone should have either a Super Fuzz, an FY-2, or a Tone Machine. Boosts are useless to me, since I only have SS amps.

Oh i'm definitley saucy.
I have a feeling this thread is gunna end with me building all of these... then sobbing in a pile of pedals.

Currently, a mini tube amp, based off the Superfly, I built, soon... well i'll post it when I get it...

Actually, I ran my old SHO clone in to my old SS Marshall and it sounded pretty good at full gain, as did the Java Boost and that amp was shittttt, so I don't think boosts have to sound bad in to a SS.
Yeah, the more I think about it, the more I think I definitley need a muff (transistor or op-amp though!) and an octavey fuzz... and a Rat and Tonebender... and Fuzzfactory and awww fuck it.

First of all, you can never go too far. Second, everyone needs some octave-up fuzz.

I think tonebender, op-amp muff, rat and an octavey fuzz. Maybe some sort of bassy boost as well?

Not bad per se, it just doesn't seem to do anything when I run a boost into my amps. It's just louder. Maybe my amps just have too much headroom, I can't get them to break up.

I think it totally depends on what kind of music you play. Doesn't it?

Screw the muff, build yourself a Foxx Tone Machine instead, and put the octave on a footswitch. Without the octave on, it can get thick and huge like a Muff, and then you just click on your octave switch to get the icepicks on top!
I'm more like a mids-ist than a bassist.

Bah-boom, what I was gonna say. There's a reason my Tone Machine is the pedal I've had the longest.

Sounds about right, cheers for helping me whittle it down guy
