Frazz Dazzler circuit

Post by therewillbehotcake »

Can anybody here tell me what transistors or diodes the Frazz Dazzler uses?

Nope. I will say it uses the 386 amp chip though. Why do you ask?

I'm asking out of curiosity, because it's one of the more distinct fuzz tones out there (not a clone of anything that precedes it). Will the real Dr. please speak up!

No sweat, I don't mind sharing the details! The Frazz uses garden variety NPN transistors, I use 2N5089 but any high gain low noise ones would work fine. There's no clipping diodes in the Frazz circuit, all the clipping is done by the transistors and the LM386, a one watt audio amplifier. The transistors are more about strangling the signal to get that frazzy sound and then the audio amp is on the output to goose everything hard.

Next week we'll submit the artwork for the first powder coated Frazz box and we'll get to back to making them, we stopped them when we stopped the vinyl pedals last spring but they'll be back in less than 2 months in the exact same version as the traveling Frazz and I'm excited to be making them again!

So hilarious... I mean, I really don't have a bone to pick with the guy, but all the shtick that goes on about JHS is great. Of course, if I were him I wouldn't find it so funny... :whatever:

Well, I think it's funny and well-deserved. I feel like this summer/fall has seen the exposure of some really lame things in the guitar pedal world and they're definitely one of them.
