Germanium Transistor Source FOUND

Post by ARC Effects »

Just wanted to give you guys a quick heads/review up on a germanium transistor source I found. Check out "minifux1" on ebay, he sells all sort of germanium transistors and the prices are pretty great as well. You have to bid on nearly all of his auctions but he immediately relists almost everything if you don't win the first time and he also lists on the international ebay (UK and Germany). Here's my haul :

Here's the total list of everything I bought :
(110) 2n404
(10) Mullard GET872
(25) Black Glass OC602
(5) OC77
(10) AC125
(5) AC128

It took about 18 days to travel from Germany to NY which wasn't bad but there isn't any tracking number so it's a bit of a waiting game (this being my first order with this guy). The price worked out to around $.80 a piece and he shipped fast and packed well so I have absolutely no complaints.

After testing a quick sample of 10 2N404's on my Peak DCA55 I'm EXTREMELY happy with the range and quality. Almost all of them had little to no leakage and the range span was from 55 to 176. I grabbed another 1 from the 100 bag and it measuraged 376 so I'm expecting great things from that bag as well. I also came up with a cool labeling/sorting system using address labels I bought on ebay and some coin envelopes.

I most likely would not bother with the OC's again as I foolishly bought them without doing my homework on them and they are fairly low gain and quite pricey. I'm sure I'll find something to do with them but all in all I think the 2N404's are where it's at and a true bargain at that.

Those Mullard GETs are rebranded OCs I recall from the few I had... Can't remember what transistor they're a match for though... 44/45 something like that.

Makes sense, looks like they have just a bit of shrink tubing on them with the model

HFE between 48 and 211 with very little leakage, definitely a great buy.
