Crazy DS-1 Mods?

Post by wsas3 »

As do many guitar players, I have a spare ds-1 laying around the house, and I was wondering what crazy mods there are for it. I'm not talkingh about a keeley mod or anything, because im covered for dirt, im just wondering if i can do anything useful with it.

I don't know what you mean by "crazy" but I recently stumbled across this site http://www.erikhansen.net/pedalmods.php where you can find easy ways to get a better sound out of your ds-1...

By crazy I mean something... well.... crazy. Not that I expect to do it with a ds-2 circuit, but modulation, random arpeggiating. That would be cool, but really, just something odd. What I don't want is soemthing to enhance trhe sound of the ds-1

feedbacking it with any kind of filter will get you an oscillator with a pitch tunable by the tone knob or filter. just keep tweaking your filters till you get a drone box out of it. you wont get a resonant frequency as low as 60hz till you rework the internal filters in the DS1. clipping diodes on the feedback loop could be fun too.

I've done the common circuit bending mods to them before. Can get some really awesome sounds with them. http://www.instructables.com/id/Circuit ... S-1/#step1

after reading his site, he builds lots of DS and tube screamer variants. the tube screamer can do that fuzz sound easy if you just remove some high pass filtering. probably something similar is possible with the DS-1. start modding and see what happens. go grab your tube screamer and put a huge cap in it like this.

Here you go...
my idea... idk how it sounds but I imagine it being "crazy" !?

I don't know how the DS-1 fx/bypass switching works so I left the switch out of the plan.... you have to figure something out for the switching system... sorry :idk:

Casper Electronics has an easy and awesome mod on the site. I got the arpeggios and oscillations as well as subbass and 8-bits. One component, a switch, and wire is all ya need.

Is that the one where you add in a transistor?

There's also the "tremolo" mod that's posted on devi's site.

Yep...and somehow, I think due to terrible soldering and what not, mine would do that tremolo thing as well...but it would decide when it did it.
