Gigging with two amps
Anyone here gig with two amp heads, and switch between them for certain songs? There's a music shop going out of business tomorrow, and they slashed the crap out of their prices. I went down there and played a Peavey Windsor head through a 1x15, and it was such an amazing beefy, wooly, saturated as fuck tube tone. But, that's not gonna work for all of our songs, just some of them.
So I'm starting to think about buying it, and bringing both the Peavey and my Genz Benz to shows, and switching between them depending on whether the song should be clean or dirty (each having it's own cab, of course). Anyone ever do that? I figure this would probably let me sell off all of my overdrive pedals, so it probably won't even cost me anything. But just the logistics of having two amps with me at each gig, and setting that all up, is just gonna be too much. Or it could be the coolest fucking thing on earth. What say you all?

I use two amps but I don't switch back and forth, I just use two amps.
I only play out about once a month though so it's not that big of a deal setting up but depending on stage size it can get a little cramped.
If you do decide to go this route I suggest one of these:

Yeah, I'm not gonna use them both together, for the same reason I hate clean blends in pedals. It's either/or with me when it comes to dirt.
As for the switcher, meh. I'm sure it's a fantastic product, but I can't justify that sort of price on an A/B switcher. I'll prolly just use an LS-2.

Just saying: Tube amps die without speaker resistance. Using one cab for two heads needs a Special switcher. I think radial offers these.

Yeah, I'm well aware of that issue. I'm pretty sure I'll set up a separate cab for each head. I did look at that radial box, but it only has one speaker out. I'd have to have yet another box to run both of mycabs anyway.

I alternate between a Vox Ac15 for distorted/effected tones, and a Fender Deluxe Reverb for clean/delayed/reverbed tones. Works pretty well.

The DeLisle A/B/C and A/B/Y switchers are actually pretty cheap compared to similar products from Radial, Lehle etc.
Using the LS-2 you may end up with ground loop hum but if it's cheap and it works go for it.

Pretty sure the loops on the Ls2 are all buffered so shouldn't be any hum problems.

Re: Gigging with two amps
I just got a Carvin head and have been playing around with playing that and my Vox AC15 at the same time. It sounds really cool. I'm not sure how the AC15 would hold up volume-wise in a gig. It seems pretty loud compared to the Carvin in 50W mode(switches between 50W/100W), but I think the 2x12 I'm playing the Carvin out of might be holding all that power back.

The LS-2 is buffered but I don't believe it's outputs are isolated so ground loop could still be a problem.
There is also a good chance that since BCbc isn't planning on using both amps at once the LS-2 will work just fine.
A lot depends on the rest of the setup too.

Re: Gigging with two amps
The Rhythm guitarist in my band does, he actually uses the stereo outs on his Boss Ce-3 and it works fine, he sets one amp up behind him and the other next to the bass amp. It soudns really good and keeps a nice balance when we play, although it is more stuff.
