Start with "In Search Of Space". I haven't found the end yet.

Epoch Eclipse is a pretty solid starting point:

Space Ritual's where the fuss comes from, though.

Start with the first albums, dim the lights and go with the music.

1971 X in Search of Space
1972 Doremi Fasol Latido
1974 Hall of the Mountain Grill
1979 Live Seventy Nine
1980 Levitation
...for starters :thumb:

You start by Listening to Space Ritual. It has all the good stuff of their early records. Then listen to all the shit that has Lemmy on them.

I love Hawkwind -- saw them loads of times in the 80s.
Levitation always cracks me up though. It sounds like Ginger Baker didn't bother listening to the rest of the band and just went off banging away on the drums. It's a great album, but weirdly disconnected.

kinda like this guy

  yeah, exactly, and I guess that's part of the charm.

If it was Bill Bruford playing on Levitation it'd make perfect sense. :p And the album would sell better, too.

:?: Really, never? Well, it IS an underground band, though crazy influental to a generation of musicians, I just haven't seen much adds or marketing done for it since the early 90's - I think - and they are definitely from time before the internet - and it shows. :whateva:

I want a "Hawkwind Oscillator" pedal.

I'd call it the Carl Sagan. And it would make "space" noise and nothing else.

Think the reason they're not discussed or advertised much is the market penetration for old people is already ludicrous; they crossed over into a college rock laughable staple immediately to a point where I swear every time I turned on a college station anywhere in the US there was a Hawkwind song playing within the first hour.

Some of the material just makes me want to run for the hills.

If I ever hear "Needle Gun" again, I'm going to kill everyone.

Don't get me wrong, I love a few of the albums but it's like "Love for Darkside of the Moon" after you've heard it 50113 times.

There is great bootleg called, Spacerock From London, which is well worth tracking down.
