(I know there was a diy thread, but now that the facts are becoming pretty clear I thought I'd put this where more would see)
Industry insiders claim JHS Pedals are cloning...Devi Ever? The ad copy for the JHS Astro Mess fuzz reminded me a lot of the whole freakish thing... It turns out the pedal bears a striking resemblance to the Devi Ever Hyperion.

JHS deals in clones for the most part, right?
Shitty they're claiming this one as "original" though. Imitation = Flattery, I guess? Funny how no one gives a shit about cloning until it happens to a builder they like. The JHS build looks cleaner at least.
Still, nowhere near the Freekish thing. That masterplan was far shadier in execution. This is just another good ol' cloning it seems, commonplace. It's insulting though when companies won't own up to it.

Dude, don't go around insulting God Fearing Americans and Family Men.™

Unfortunately, it looks like JHS went further than that. They pre-emptively sent an email to all of the retailers telling them that Devi was claiming that it was a clone, and it's apparently caused some static between Devi and the retailers. Cloning is one thing. But when you starting fucking with the original builder's relationship with their retailers, that's some bullshit right there.

Yep...I don't think Devi can expect much from outing them for cloning besides maybe an apology, but the whole bad mouthing her stuff to retailers could be a serious defamation suit.

Very true. If you've got the nerve to "borrow" a design for you're own profit, give credit where credit's due. Defamation shouldn't be tolerated but the pedal biz is a fucking drama filled mess as of late.

Tortious interference with contract relations is, as you would expect, a tort. Mental distress can be included in damages. Contracts arising out of the interference can be enjoined to prevent the tortfeasor from benefitting.
