on further thought i'd add dearmond's, both the cheap gold foils from old harmony's and the like, also the duo sonic style. but....the usefulness would depend on whether you use them your live rig or just for speciality recording. for loud use they need to be repotted. oh yea....burns tri-sonics and mustangs too.
This is for recording... Those Goldfoils arn't cheap anymore... A guy I play with is obsessed with the things so I know the sound... hmmm Mustang... after listening to Eric's demos Hmm I like that idea'r...
man i have a duo jet style (not duo sonic as i mistakenly wrote above) i can kik you...i don't like them...it's a stock one from my gretsch duo. just say the word.....
I've said it before and I'll say it again..pretty much any TV Jones pickup should get you in the ballpark (they have single coils and humbuckers..but even their humbuckers dont sound like most humbuckers...If you know Gretsch pickups, you know these...they're basically higher-quality copies)
cheap ceramic Strat PUs too close to the strings will give you more jangle than you can even STAND. but you'd be wanting a pleasant tone LOL.
when i think "jangle" i'm thinking of a very specific kind of sound, and that's comprised of a fairly thin low end and a crisp, piercing, sustained treble; IMO that sound is most characteristic of Rickenbacker toaster PUs and Jaguar PUs. if you push the treble on your amp you can get a "jangly" sound with a Telecaster, some types of Strat PUs (early 50s and ceramic types in particular), and with any of the typical Gretsch PUs i.e. DynaSonics, FilterTrons, or HiLoTrons (they just LOVED the intercaps over at Gretsch). Firebird-style mini-humbuckers with the right kind of magnets might also give you the kind of tone you're looking for. if you want jangle from Gretsch pickups, you might want to try the regular Gretsch PUs or custom order from TV Jones, because TV's PUs are higher-output and IMO are darker and fatter-sounding than standard-issue Gretsch PUs. from what folks say, Tom is very accessible and willing to work with you.
