started when gus from diystompboxes took a piece of the harmonic percolator and put some clipping diodes on it. I made some minor changes on the input cap and the V+ resistor. I added a 15k shunt to prevent static and noise on the breadboard. it might not even be needed when installed in a metal enclosure. this is the result of me wanting to run feedback loopers on everything. feedback can be done with a 500k pot but it still oscillates when not playing and it always reverts back to the same frequency. gated feedback requires a buffer splitter, an LED driver, a vactrol and a 500k pot. once you find a setting you like on the feedback pot you can probably replace it with a resistor and a switch. its dirty, it sounds broken, perfect for ILF its got some static noise for a fraction of second when muting the strings. enough to add character but not really noisy at all when playing. I haven't tried feedback without clipping diodes but I have a feeling it would be boring and screech like a banshee. I want the fuzz. I haven't built the V2 yet. anyone else wanna give it a go.
the front of the harmonic percolator is just a really loud boost with a slight amount of fuzz added. its almost exactly like a boost. the harmonic percolator has filters in it that will reduce the volume. another reason it has a hot signal inside is for a better signal to noise ratio. the filters of the HP might even be based off some vintage synth. that would explain why it is optimized to run at much higher volume. very common on old synths. I was almost disappointed to hear it without the diodes. not fuzzy enough for me. the only reason I think its different and interesting is that it has some kind of figure 8 pattern between the two transistors. with all the mods done it definitely sounds different than anything I have ever heard.
I built it but I'm not very happy with how noisy it is. I wanna dump it cheap or just leave it on my noise board. I already have the broken parallel universe and phantom octave for my drone/noise board. I usually use my cell phone with a drone app. or just run feedback loopers and my friends delay and all my pedals. my noise board is where pedals go to die lol
