The Elements July 2011 (there be demo vids in here)
*cool sounding trumpets and horns and stuff like that*
Please allow myself to introduce ourself's newest pedal, The Elements!
The Elements starts with the Cleanness, a simple op amp buffer and booster with active tone controls for bass, mids, and treble. A few things were added to this platform such as the option to limit the bass into the gain stage, three midrange frequency options, clipping diode options of LEDs, asymmetrical silicon/LED, or no diodes at all, and then the high gain mode puts a second gain stage into the circuit that the previous options all affect.
The circuit goes like this:
Buffer > Midrange control (I just think it sounds best at the front!) > Bass limit toggle > Gain stage (same as Cleanness) > Gain option toggle > Second gain stage > Bass control > Treble control (I just think bass and treble go best at the end!) > Buffer
The mix control is at the output and when set dry (knob down all the way) the signal only goes through the input buffer stage and then connects with the output buffer of the wet path.
It's got soft touch relay based true bypass switching, 9-18VDC operation, fancy 4 layer pcb with internal power and ground planes plus bottom layer ground plane, the expression jack on the side is for the clean blend/mix and around 50k is good, the box is a 125B same size as the new Trem, and a lifetime warranty. The MSRP is $225 and I'll start sending them out to stores next week.
This first box is a glossy black with matte black alchemy symbols for the planets, silver text, black knobs and toggle covers, and probably a mix of LED colours as any colour looks cool with it. We've got 125 of this finish and then we'll have a new one, maybe around the end of August.
Thanks very much to all yous guys for the discussions of the pedal, it's always very much appreciated! I'm going to send a traveling Elements out soon so you can give it a shot if you like and there will be a thread about that soon.

OMG I can't effin' wait! Looks incredible Ryan, the "teaser" pic was just that. This and the Tremolessence are the last two pedals I need to finish the ol' board overhaul.

4 layer PCB... stepping it up to levels that other builders can't even think of competing at.
very sexy guts!

Haha no, it's not like that at all and I'm just showing off/goofing off... the 4 layer boards are just a slightly slicker board than a regular one... but their real advantage is how easy they make layouts since you don't have to run power and ground traces, so really, they're the easy way out! :p

Ryan, you are really putting a dent in my future savings buddy. I want your entire collection even though i only own the cosmichorus right now. your pedals are amazing. But why are the crazy designs getting toned down? I can't get enough of the artwork you've done in the past. In addition, these designs I'm referencing are very marketable and eye catching. It's probably what got me into boutique and hand painted pedals. Anyway, just my 2 pennies.

Holy smokes Ryan. That's some gorgeous work there. I'd love to get in on that tour box when it's time. I'll have to keep my eyes open for that thread...
I'm more like a mids-ist than a bassist.

Re: The Elements July 2011
Thanks guys!
Good question for sure and welcome to the forum! Those vinyl finishes were very cool, very unique, very wild looking... and very unreasonable for Tanya to keep them doing. First off, she invented that finish as a neat way to help out her new friend in 2005. Next thing she knows it's 6 years later and she's spent nearly every day doing them! So first thing, Tanya wants her life back and she wants to do all the things she's put off for the last 6 years.
Second thing, it's impossible to keep up with orders doing those finishes. She had to work basically every day of the week to make 40 to 60 of those finishes a month. We had a full year wait time with our store orders, that's how slow our rotation had gotten. We only got farther and farther behind and we could only bring in enough money to keep our heads above water, we could never make progress at that volume. Those finishes are just too time consuming and too labour intensive and they're a technique/style that was all her. We didn't want to try and train somebody else to do it as it's just too inefficient and slow and plus we don't love that idea anyway... we work alone... in the night.. *scary music*
So we switched to powder coated and screen printed boxes and we're both much happier! I think our new boxes look basically the same as our old style anyway.. take this Elements box for example, it would look basically the same in vinyl. Same with the neon green Trems or the murdererator or the birds mini-RRRs... I look at those boxes and think geeez they look just like the vinyl used to and I think that's awesome. Sure we're limited to 2 or 3 colours but we're ok with that.. just wait til you see how cool the new CC zombie finish will look!
We regret alienating anybody with our new finishes but we're loving them and it's changed how our business works in a good way.
I have no idea, Aaron, sorry, it hasn't been talked about at all yet! I think we'll end up doing this finish twice because 125 isn't enough for all the stores to receive some. That'll push our third finish back to September probably, I'm not exactly sure how fast we'll go through these since the build is kinda slow with me populating the pcbs.
Jeremy, the tour box thread will start soon.. the pedals are ready I just need to get some control labels on them and then they're off to Jero!
Email incoming, Blake! *smile*
