an orange squeezer might be a little understated, control wise. although i dont know jackall about them. id like to try a compressor for some stuff but jsut dont have the time or money either

I've got the HBE comp and its pretty amazing, doesn't take away anything and adds a whole lot... I see its listed as 175 $ but I tell you its a wondrous box. In any case Joel from HBE is a VERY cool guy, mebbe he'd be open to a trade or something????

The Emma I haven't heard, but they have a great reputation.

I got one of their cheezy little green compressors a few months back for my Stick, and it's probably about the best little pedal compressor I've ever used. Like, ever...

Nice and transparent; tames the wild transients and smoothes out the dynamics without adding a huge swooshing tornado of compressed white noise to the background. Rivals some of the rack stuff I've used and it works on batteries.

Also, I've also got an Aphex Punch Factory (izzat boutique, or merely uncommon?) which is good but not quite under $100. It's touchy though. By the time you get it up to where it's really doing its job, you're starting to get a bit noisy. If you need to really pump and squish, you'd better have a really clean signal chain to feed into it.

And, of course, everybody says the Keeley roolz. But NFW you're gonna get that for under a c-note unless you held up somebody at knifepoint.

I gots an interesting add too, being that this thread is turning into as much of a "name cool compressors" thread than a "help Devi find compressor" thread (I think I would go with the guyatone for a pedal):
When I do laptop guitaristry I run a signal (before or after or mixed) through a Max/msp environment called LLOOPP (http://lloopp.klingt.org/plone/lloopp/). One of the Input "acts" is called Feedbacker and is an unlimited compressor with an equalizer that has three curves you can use to do high, low and band passes or/and boosts (three curves, yep). Might not be very popular in a forum for analog effectors, but we all love to experiment I hope.

I like it because of the post-digital approach. No limits as in commercial audio tools.
Example:

If you wanted to, you could take that sentence, change "without" with "with" and add it to the amount of extreme you wanted. There is also a threshold so you could cut off some noise. Very good for getting ALL the sounds from your guitar, place a finger on a string and you hear a thump, pluck it and it's almost the same volume. Equalizer makes it awesome for feedback loops (I like feedback loops made through ad/da converters).
Can make a few samples tomorrow if I manage to get my drunk ass home after my exhibit (alcohol helps nervousness).

To add some credibility to my praise of this software: Fennesz used it in his 2004 live work *points*. It's also completely free as you can get runtime versions of max/msp for nothing.

That sounds pretty sweet!
Through my trials your pedals do work great with a analogman juicer (IMO). Just a little over the 100 dollar range unless you luck up and find it used.It also works well at giving more bottom end to an eq..

They are great demos! This is admittedly the first one I've seen from ProShop. They are going to start carrying our pedals in a month or two when we finally send them a first batch. Should be very cool. I look forward to them demoing the Rocket.

They really are great videos, I've learned a lot by watching them. There is a fair amount of technique in the videos as well, if yer paying attentiion.

I like to try to apply what I've learned to the pedals that I already own, (as opposed to coveting unattainable gear, i.e. being a consumer whore), and I've cranked out lots of new textures and tones this way, watchin' yer free vids and not spending a dime. (Full disclosure: I've made a few purchases at PGS, and will continue to do so, esp. after they have Devi's pedals!)

I've learned that Devi's pedals can hold their own with any of those boutique, super-expensive dealies. I've learned that crafting my own unique tone is way more important than re-creating anyone else's (with the possible exception of Brian May...). I've learned Less Is More, again. Thanks for schooling us, PGS.

But the coolest, most punk-rock, d.i.y., community-driven and sexy demo vids are still Devi's. And Aen's (I dig those vids, too).

So, yeah Devi...I can't wait till they can demo your Rocket!
