Fuzz for Frog Eyes-type sound?

Hi, first post here, lurked a little, but not too much, but it seemed like this is the best place to ask fuzz-questions and questions in general.

So if any of you have ever heard of Frog Eyes, you might have heard their latest album "Paul's Tomb: A Triumph"...

And if you have, well, then you might have noticed the crazy fuzzed-out tones on some (all?) of the songs...

I've heard they either used old broken amps to get all their fuzz or they used somewhere around 17 fuzz pedals for the album
What I'm wondering is what sort of pedal would get me anywhere close to this sort of sound?

Welcome to ILF.......the two pedals that comes to my mind is earthquaker dirt transmitter and smallsound/bigsound fuck overdrive. Those two have some sort of tweaking controls that can fuck the sound of it, making them sounds like a broken amp.

Well, Carey lives not far from me, and I've sold him some stuff in the past.
I know he has/had an early Tone Reaper (not sure if he recorded with it though)
He was going to go through my fuzz collection for recording, but we never got round to it.
If you really want to know I guess I can ask him?

I'm not sure about the Fuzz but the singer is definitely using an old, analog "Bobcat Goldthwait - Emulator TwoThous-A-Tron".

Dirt transmitter sounds like the perfect way to fuck shit up seriously. Listened to a few demos, and it sounds on-target. But Dev, would it be too awkward to ask? I know Carey might eat your face (I'm just kidding, I know he's a nice guy behind the mask) but it would actually mean a lot to me as a stupid fan-boy.

As for his voice, yeah, I know. But it grows on you! Really!
