Re: Gibson RD
I was just reading about the reissues today.
so the reissue is a completely different guitar except for the body shape... the reissue is $1299 right now at mf/music123. I think that might be a sale price.
The Gibson RD guitars were introduced in 1977 and remained on the production line for only five years. They were routed through active electronics. The neck was glued in, in accordance with Gibson tradition, but was made to a 25.5-inch scale length, and carried a maple fingerboard. Body and neck were also both made of maple, all elements intended to contribute to a brighter, snappier tone. It was a clever and well-thought-out piece of guitar design, and won a few devoted fans, but fewer than 1,500 were sold in its three-year run. In response to heavy demand from collectors worldwide, Gibson USA has proudly resurrected this double-cut solidbody. With the same bright sound and innovative design, the Gibson RD's return is cause for celebration.
The Gibson RD Standard Reissue is a fantastic reissue that captures the unique vibe of this unusual electric guitar, but incorporates many of the tried and true features that Gibson fans have come to know and love. It features a "reversed" Firebird style solid mahogany body, a set mahogany neck with a rounded '50s shape, a 22-fret rosewood fretboard, and has the traditional 24-3/4" Gibson scale length.

Cheaper, not as heavy, and they already use a metric fuckload of mahogany for everything else so they probably have loads of it lying around?theavondon wrote:WHY WOULD THEY MAKE IT ALL MAHOGANY INSTEAD OF MAPLE?

Yeah, yeah, but I mean, the maple was the best part about those RD's.

New Guitar Day day?

I love the design of the RD, but the idea of an all-maple Gibson doesn't seem right to me. Kind of like the fact that the new ones are mahogany. Anyway, I had been trying to track down an RD bass when this beauty popped up on my local craigslist - grabbed it as quick as I could:

Re: Gibson RD

i'm picking this up next month

i have been wanting an old RD for a couple of years but the price is kinda ridiculous...
plus... from quite many players' comments... it doesn't seem to be a very impressive sounding guitar ....
