Pedaltrain Jr-sized wood board.

Post by mathias »

I've been working on this, but it's gonna be too small for the guy I was making it for, so I'm going to make him something much larger.

1/2" black formica-topped MDF scavenged for free from my neighbors. Pedaltrain Junior-sized (18"x12"x3")
Went way overkill on the braces + screws and built a little third leg in the middle of the front to help support things, because the last 1/2" MDF one I made is already getting a little janky, according to my brother, who was the recipient of that one.

Here's some pictures from today's work on it, finishing up with flat black spray paint on the exposed edges:

Click to see bigger versions on Twitpic, because it limits the size I can post here, grrr.

I countersunk the drywall screws and used heavy-duty wood glue, but I'm not happy with this method. The whole thing ends up being too heavy, and the black spray paint leaves a lot to be desired. Let me know what you think, I'm open to suggestions! :thumb: I'm still learning to get really precise/good with my woodworking. So suggestions are greatly appreciated.

So, I started thinking about how to build a better one! After some talk with the guys at my shop, it sounds like we're going to try to program the Milwaukee Makerspace's CNC router to cut out pedalboards from a sheet of 1/2" baltic birch, change the bit, and have it cut dovetails. That'll look a lot better and let me build bigger boards faster and more precisely. Here's what the CNC router looks like:
