Playing outside

Post by adrianlee »

Question. This may not actually even belong in this section of the forum.

BUT, let's suppose you wanted to play outside where there was no electricity. What type of generator would you want to power....let's say, 2 half stacks, a bass rig, PA and maybe some lights AND OF COURSE SOME FUCKING FUZZ.

I know nothing about this, for all I know, the thing could cost me fucking 5 grand. Help me out!

You can rent a Generator pretty cheap and as far as figuring out how much you can run you could add the wattage of everything you will be running up to get an Idea. I have done this and had no problems as long as you are loud enough to drown the generator out.

^This. Though the modern generators are pretty easy to play over, some of them cheap/old ones are pretty noisy. This can force Your volume up to a level where I suggest a small outdoors stage over a tent. If You insist on playing in a tent You want to leave the generator outside and have a wall between the tent and the generator so it won't be heard. And offering the audience ear plugs is always a novel way to imply You've decided to make the hearing impaired located a mile away enjoy the show. Also, be sure to inform the possible authorities that might come to interfere with the show if You haven't filled in the forms.

Renting the efficient generators are not that expensive either, ask around, and don't let them talk You into buying the over-sized and more expensive model. Quick Google searches convinced me of this Honda baby (the medium sized ones) look a lot like the stuff I've seen around the small outdoors venues and the theater and filming projects http://www.hondapowerequipment.com/prod ... ategory=sq

My only suggestion is to double the amount of amps you just listed. Outdoors=quiet, so you wanna compensate as much as you can.

That's a point, too, yeah. Two full stacks for every band member suffices, though. :thumb:  UNLESS You're plannning to have festivals.

Ha. I can work on this. I only have a 4x12 powered by an OR80 and a 2x12 powered by a music man. Looks like I have to order 2 6x12s.

You need to make sure the generator used isn't going to give you wacky voltage spikes that make your amp go poof.
