The Amp for me?
I'm trying to get some energetic semi driven clean tones for some Cap'n Jazz/Snowing/Bear vs Shark/Early Tera Melos type tones.
I like dynamic and articulate amps.
I'll probably pick up a compressor and booster if needed.
But right now I'm looking for any ol' good sounding head.
Preferably something not to pricey and not too large as I'm looking to use it as my only amp.
$750 is probably my peak.
I already have a homemade 212 and an old Ampeg 412 so I'm probably looking at a head.

Jet City amps are really nice for the money. Tube driven and spring reverb.

touch sensitive amps are usually the most expensive. but the roland jc120 combo is pretty cool for your price range.

Yah, I have one. It's amazing, you can also run two cabinets off of it. You could always try to find a JC 120 head. It's basically a Jc-120 in head form, they're kinda hard to find.

if you can, check out George Dennis (a bit rare, yeah) Mighty Mouse/The Blue. It's even harder to find them in a head version
Sovteks are said to be good
i also played a Red Bear amp, JCM-800 like, cheap, all tube, fucking great sounding, really raw low-ish gain rock sound

Re: The Amp for me?
I know for Cap'n Jazz Victor was using a Marshall JCM800 in Ghosts and Vodka, I've also seen other non-descript Marshall heads on-stage with them.
You'll definitely want something Marshall-esque, if not a Marshall. I can vouch for the suggestion of Jet City, they are great for the money but might not have quite enough... je ne sais quoi

JCM is the way to go for that kind of stuff. You can usually find 900s for cheap if you have patience.

Yeah.
One week a JCM 900 head went for $400, and a combo for $600.
That's pretty cheap.

Re: The Amp for me?
Bassman head and couple of 15's never hurt anyone.. except their eardrums.
Edit: But yeah, pretty sure Cap'n Jazz played Marshalls, likely JCM 800s or 900s. Those things basically saturated the market for amps all through the 80s and 90s.
