They're smaller and they just snap into the enclosure. And they hold pretty good. They're actually pretty hard to turn from the outside.

YEAH!

Fuck you. This deserved a thread. Those other DC jacks suck.

i wish DC jacks were like all other jacks. to take a circuit out of a box you have to desolder the lugs and thats mega annoying.

One of my favorite pedals has had a weak, shitty DC jack for a while. It's currently held on with duct tape. It may be a good plan to buy this.

I have been using a metal jack that grounds to the enclosure. (Let me reword what I said at first.) I understand that this is supposed to be bad - the positive outer part is connected ground case, and the rest of the circuit (input/output jacks) are also grounding to the enclosure. Strangely, I haven't had an issue.. maybe there isn't that much conductivity to cause a problem. But this is probably not the way to go :idk:

You can get them with the nut on the outside, but they stick out of the box quite a bit. If the Boss standard hadn't been adopted, it wouldn't be an issue, but we're basically stuck with whatever plastic 2.1mm jacks we can find.

Although, I have mounted those metal ones in a rubber grommet. It looks realllly nice, but it's a pain in the ass.

Just a note. These jacks mount in a 7/16" hole-- which is on standard step bits. :omg:

I've used those. The metal casing isn't connected to the actual contacts. But with my 1 Spot, I had a hard time keeping it in a position that wouldn't short. When it shorts, the power adapter will cut off or fry.

I mostly just hate the standard ones in pedals. Those huge nuts are so awkward! <-- says the samurai.

Yep. I think I'm going to switch to the plastic ones you linked. I don't like the weird large off-center round ones either.

the worst part is how the enclosure is jumping all over the place when I'm drilling it with this big ass bit. and I'm using a drill press with a new bit. doesn't matter if i drill a pilot hole. I dont have a stepped bit. I'm always looking to make things smaller so this is good.

Slow your drill down, if you can. And use some cutting fluid. Also, get a step bit. : D

You should do a group buy so we can get 'em cheap!

I was wishing for some other kind of DC jack just a few hours ago. Definitely checking these out. The plugs usually aren't in there super tight so the risk of pulling out the jack seems fairly low.

This one looks handy too, but it's bigger:

The ability to take the circuit out without having to desolder would be great though.

Ok, so I just actually tested these things out. They're weird, but in a kinda good way. The plug actually kinda snaps in and holds really firm. I tried yanking the plug out over and over again and the jack never came out. So I'd say it's solid enough.

So yay!

I tested those metal ones again, and I still can't get them to work for me. O.o

As for doing a group buy, I doubt it'd really be quite worth it. It'd be cost + $5 for shipping, and if you buy 10 they're already only $.79 each.

Yeah, but I'd be in for 100 or so. Especially if we get the quantity up high enough for another price break.

I'd be down to go in on some of those as well, if it helps.

We just need Scarlett Johannson to sell people on going in on a group buy.

DC Jacks. You gotta get yourself some of these elegant DC jacks. Nothing says "I've got money" like having a pedal with DC jacks plugged into a PedalPower2. You gotta get yourself some of these DC jacks!

How bout this one? Or dat one? Or this one?
