BOSS DS! and MT2 mods

I am a new modder but really want to tackle the Marshall mod on the DS1 and the Twilight Zone mod on the MT2. Think it is possible? I have only done a mids mod on a NYC muff recently. Any links that show EXACTLY how to do each one would be greatly appreciated! Thanks ahead of time guys!

As soon as I get home I can let you know about the ds1 mod. It's probably available somewhere online though like at freestompboxes or somewhere like that...

As far as I know it just involves switching out a few simple components, the desoldering is probably the most difficult part.

Looking to do an MT2 mod also. Is the Twilight mod the best one? If not, what does everyone think is?

Ok....I have heard that de-soldering something is kinda tricky. How do I do this the safest cleanest way? Links to show me would be radikewl!

the only ways I know to desolder are using desoldering braid or a desoldering pump. Both seem to sort of have their pros and cons. With braid, you place the braid on top of the joint to be desoldered and then place your tip on the braid, and when the joint is heated, the braid soaks it up. With a pump, you just use your iron to heat the solder, and suck up the melted solder with the pump. Just don't get the bulb type of pump, those suck. You can just look up how to desolder on youtube for video examples.

So I tried my hand at de-soldering for the first time today. a little slow going because I was worried that I would snap the board,. Hahaha. That de-solder pump packs a wallop! Is that normal? I managed to get 4 components out in a matter of 20 minutes. I had to stop because I have plans but all I can think of is modding now. I have officialy been sucked in. :yay:

Sounds like you did all right. I like the desoldering braid myself, but to each his own! :thumb:

My pump sure does! There's been a few times when desoldering on a small board, and had the board flying across my desk. :lol:

I really need to start using my "helping hands".

I've been eyeing this thread for a while, because I've been thinking about modding a DS1 that I have. I also have 2 modded MT2's (a Keeley, and a Diezel/Mesa Boogie hybrid mod).

It may be a bit late, but I found a lot of great info on Boss DS1 mods and Boss MT2 mods over at freestompboxes.org.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to do the Vintage Mod that Brian Wampler came up with on my DS1.

I did a couple of Wampler's mods for the ds-1 and to me the best mod is the JCM type mod. I also modded the mt-2 for the dieznerr mod and it makes the metal zone sounds incredible. De-soldering can be tricky and if the trace is lifted, you can always repair it by "bridging" the circuit. The hardest part is when you have to drill holes through the pedal casing. It has to be at the right place and you have to measure pretty well. If it doesn't fit, you'll have a swiss cheese!

local guitar center has a 20.00 DS1 I may have to go pick it up

although thats not much cheaper than a normal one,

I am doing the Wampler JCM800 mod! I hope it turns out well. This is for a friend so if it all comes together I will be doing one ofr myself. He also sent me his MT2. One of the pots is broken and he wants the diezel mod.

Ok...i got everything soldered in and I think I am having grounding issues. When I play the pedal I have a hum and the effect is really quite. If I move something or touch metal on my guitar the sound is like normal. I checked all of my connections and they all seem good. HELP!
