I realize this subforum is mainly about DIY pedals, but I know that several people here have been working on DIY guitars/basses and such...maybe this could be a thread where people can post progress shots/info and finished projects?

That trial-and-error parts hunting is the kind of thing that burns me up the entire time I'm doing it, but then feels rewarding when complete.

Will post a few project pics when I get my bass back...in a few more days hopefully.

I like this since that is what my DIYing is.. I've done a few pedals, they work and sound good but ripping apart and building guitars and basses are more fun to me.

So... This is getting started up again soon, I just have to set up shop again..

It's going to be strung B-E-A-D and I don't have the confidence to file the nut myself. I also wired it up once but it was a crappy, messy job and I didn't have enough wire left over to go back and fix it up, so I talked with the guitar tech about how I'd like it all set up and he's doing that

I feel like I post about it A LOT. I don't wanna seem like I'm trying to build hype or anything, I'm just really glad it's done after spending the majority of a year on it (fuck walking out to the garage and freezing my ass off listening to 90's alt-rock cassettes while sanding it before work. The humidity around here is very high year-round so I also had to wait a long time for semi-dry days...add to that my total lack of experience refinishing anything).

Ah, I see. Nuts at first are a little tricky, you have to get the tilt right.. wiring just takes practice...

i've got 2 projects under way at the moment, the first is my V-NiX, i got the body of a localish luthier, it was roughly cut out(still needed some sanding around the edges) and had been routed (neck,bridge PUp, control cavity) and had been set on fire to try and get a certain effect that he wanted, but it didnt turn out that way, scored it for $1 (about 70-75centsUS) on an auction site because no one else wanted it
have sanded it smoothand am going to reburn with a blowtorch the top horn to even up the scorching, then wire brush it to make the grain 3d. started carving the pickgaurd, still have to thin it out another 1-2mm and cut out for the pickup. the pickgaurd and neck im going to stain black, then lightly sand to pot the grain, then Tru-Oil everything...


the other project is a Cort, dont know what model? 3 piece Mahogany neckthru with Maple wings, have to repair 3 point on it. and am going to do a kinda burst finish(not wanting to say yet what im wanting to acheive in case it doesnt turn out ) am also going to thin down the back of the neck/body joint to be more like the neck, im hoping this will be okay as its a neckthru?

Yeah, this one really moved me, I was planning on copping that color if my finish didn't work out! Also those sheets (I guess) are fucking awesome, where'd you get them?

I normally make fun of "sharp" guitars Ironbird, but I especially like the Cort! I dunno why but the headstock is great, very stylish without being BRUTALZ GRIMDARK. It'll be fun to follow.
