seating pots correctly

Post by jfrey »

So The last parts I need for the project I'm working on have all arrived. I went to put the pots into the enclosure, and I noticed a little tab that sticks up on one side off the pot and prevents it from sitting correctly. Is this something I could file down? Any other solutions?

What About those Pesky Tabs?

Most pots come with a small metal tab that sticks up in the same direction as the pot. These are used for anchoring the pot firmly in the enclosure. If you are so inclined, you can drill an additional small hole in your enclosure to use this tab. If you are like most of us DIY folks, you'll just snap the tab off before mounting the pot.

I really got to get on reading that site. People keep referring me to it but I have only gone through a few things so far.

Thanks man.

Since we have that settled...

Why the hell do pots not come with lock washers?! >.>

Moreover! Why has the pedal community settled on pots that have those tabs if they aren't being used? Maybe I'll start drilling for that tab... fuck the haters!

What I want to know, is where to get extra washers for the 'inside mounting' dc jacks. That way I can set the jack a little more flush with the enclosure.

I've drilled for the tabs before, but it's not worth doing.
