I need a new guitar! Help me choose!
Ok. Here is the deal, I need a new guitfiddle and I am lost for what to get. I've narrowed it down to 2 guitars, but I need some help deciding between the two.
Let me tell you what I need my guitar to do... I need it to be HEAVY when it needs to be, heavy fuzz, thick thick heavy fuzz.. but it also needs to sound AWESOME clean too, Verbed out and Delayed and all that... So, here are my choices...
Squire Vintage Modified Tele SH
or
Ephiphone G400 SG
Hook a brother up, hell if you have other suggestions for me, please, don't hesitate to add them.

Re: I need a new guitar! Help me choose!
my first "nice" guitar was a Schecter C-1+
i ended up selling it, but i miss that guitar all the time. it had duncan designed pickups, and the great thing was that you can coil tap them. great guitar, and if i didn't have a fender obsession, I probably would have kept it. played great, sounded nice, and got complements all the time. pretty cheap too. right in your price range, and the features blow both those that you chose away. grover tuners, coil taps, etc. i might actually pick one up if the price is right someday. used i got mine for $350

Though I voted for the tele, you may want to consider this:

+1 on the Tele deluxe if you want both thick and heavy tones along with great cleans, does both pretty well and not horribly expensive. The SG will do heavy but I find the pickups overdrive a clean channel real quick, more of a raunchy, dirty clean. The Tele will sound great clean but with only a neck humbucker it could get pretty muddy rather than thick.
I'd look at some guitars with coil tap humbuckers, super versatile! I know the LP Tradition Pro has this and Gibson just released an SG like that also. Only way to really get the best of both worlds using only one guitar.

I voted for the Tele, because those G400's can really be shitty.
To be honest though, I'd go for a Blacktop Jazzmaster or Strat. They'll both bring teh heavies, but will do the single coil, sparkly clean tone as well.
Plus, they're legit quality. Alder bodies, good finishes, GREAT necks, and good stock pickups.
I got my BT Jazzmaster for $400 shipped, so for a bit more than the Tele, I'd definitely recommend going for it.

I too had a Schecter for my first "nice" guitar. It was the C-style semi-hollowbody. I still have it and I love it.
As for TS, have you played either guitar? If you can play both. Fender/Squier guitars tend to have a different feel than Gibson/Epiphone guitars as far as their necks go. I can see that being a real selling point for me and on that point alone I'd go with the Epiphone. However, I'd imagine it would be easier to get a good crunch out of the tele than getting good cleans from the epi. That doesn't really answer your question concretely, but it's better than suggesting some other, more expensive instrument and telling you "just save another $100."

Squiers of today are RUBBISH! Made with 4 piece plywood bodies, rubber necks, and scrape metal for frets. You can't slide up and down the neck without scraping up your fingers. I give it 6 months and the action is 2 inches high. And the pickups are microphones wired into a transistor radio. The pickup switch is an AM/FM switch and the tone knob is a freq. dial.
Epiphone is much better and made for the long haul. They have really put a lot of options into the series too, competing with the vast selection of Squiers.
