would this mess up a pedal?

Post by Here Lies The Fire »

Would changing the values of a bunch of capacitors mess up a pedal so it will never work again? How about messing with the transistors? O_o

I am in the process of putting together a Devi OD/FUZZ that will include quite a but of effects in the same enclosure...on the same board.
Basically would it hurt to made most of the caps switchable from a .01 to a .1. and have the transistors switchable?

Not at all dude! They'll change the sound of the pedal, that's all. You may just need to play with values to get the sounds you want. Normally I'd say to keep an eye out for the pin outs on the transistors but the beauty of Devi's designs is that putting a tranny in the wrong way often results in a different but equally fun sound. Have you looked at the schematics on her site? They mention the various transistors to flip etc. Also check out her etsy page for little bits of info on some of her other pedals. As her pedals are primarily based on a handful of core circuits with little tweaks here and there, it should be easy to build a pedal that'll cover a large range of tones. If ya need any help I'll do my best to help ya

But seriously, no it won't permanently mess anything up. Just make a note of the values that are in the circuit *before* you tear it apart.
