Would you really buy a $4,000 amp based on a YouTube video?

EDIT JUST TO BE NICE: Here's a bunch of clips for the Reeves: http://www.reevesamps.com/custom225.htm

Thanks, but I've already listened to all of those. Just trying to absorb all the media I can on this before I can find one. And many of my favorite players have played either Ampeg SVT models or Hiwatt Bass models.

To add,

We live in Cleveland--The shit hole of America. Finding a good amp here is like finding Waldo when you're incredibly drunk.

Eh, I bought a $2,000 bass without ever playing one like it. Actually I did that like 3 times.

Also my two favourite amps were purchased without ever doing anything besides saying "looks cool, likely smells old" so WTF do I know?

I'd recommend anything over giving Ampeg money. Reeves is cheaper and have a better reputation from what I've gathered. Win Win.

You see a lot of guys using SVT models because they are easy to come by and sound good... I have one... but it isn't my main amp anymore, at the time I got it there wasn't the choices you have now for a big tube bass amp.

I have an SVT VR now that I got second hand. Some weasel on eBay sent it with a screwed up first channel, unbeknown to me. I've called Ampeg several times to try and get schematics, and other customer service help. Nothing, they said they'd send e-mails call back blah blah fucking blah. LOUD Technologies has ruined that company. (My USA made SVT3Pro was a beast, great head for what is does.)From what I've read about them in the early days of the SVT, it was a close knit family type community of musicians with extremely high customer service. Make great sounding amps, but between outsourcing their amps and the new customer service, verry displeased.

I've heard a lot of bad stories about loud, that totally sucks. And I KNOW repairs on the things can be costly... my CL overheated in a session once, It cost me around $400+ to have fixed.... 8 years ago...

Try Wisconsin. The only thing we have here is Dwarfcraft and Bon Iver. And beer. And cows.
