Squire VM Jaguar Bass

Has anyone here played one of these? I currently have a VM '70s Jazz Bass, and it's too bright. I'm looking for something with more thump - I was thinking about a P Bass, but since the Jaguar Bass has a P Bass pickup, it's an option.

How does the Jaguar Bass sound? Is it bright, dark, or in the middle? Will it get me the thump I want with flat wounds on it?

whoaaa. that's the first i've heard of this. i think i actually like the design of this more than the fender jaguar bass.

I'll jump in on this. I've had mine for a couple of months and I could not be happier with it.
I got it to fill the thump hole (heh heh) my disappointing MIM P-bass left me with and it definitely brings a good bit of thump to the table.
Tonally, I'd say it's pretty middle ground, but it is by no means sterile.
The fret ends on the treble side of the neck are a little sharp and I've been meaning to file them down but haven't yet.
I was pleasantly surprised with the pickups, I thought for sure I'd be replacing them pretty quickly but that's not the case.

For it's retail price, this jank is more than worth it IMO.

Thanks for the details. With flatwounds on it will it get a good, thick bass sound? Even playing fingerstyle with flats on my Jazz Bass it's still way too bright, so I'm looking for something to cover the other side of the spectrum.

Plus, at $300, I'd only be out a little money after selling the Jazz Bass.

Is the neck gloss or satin?

What flats? how long did you have them on? I mean Family Man used a J, you can't get much more thick and bassy then him. The thing is though is with Js you sort'a have to really dig around for one that even unplugged has a lot of fundamental. My main bass [old ibanez sr 505] has JJ pickups and it has a supper deep sound, my ESP-fender franky has a lot of lows as well, which I just think was luck because most Js I have played sound thin to me.

Rotosound Flats, and they've been on it for over a year. The bass is all maple, so that's what I attributed the really bright sound to. I keep the tone rolled 90% off, and still it's just thin, bright sound. Rolling the tone all the way off just makes it sound terrible, so I keep it up a tad.

I've used it with several amps over the few years that I've had it, and it's always been bright regardless of the amp, so I don't think that's the issue either.

Would a pickup change help, or with the maple body, neck, and fretboard am I always going to have a fairly bright sound?
