Need information yo!

Post by MaxMaps »

I need to try a fuzzhugger fx pedal again

:)

I am really liking my board at the moment and want to add a 3rd dirt too it.

So far:

Peterson Strobestop 2
Dwarfcraft Eau Clair Thunder
James Creel TRM-1 Tremelo
Electro Harmonix Deluxe Memory Boy ( the only pedal I am thinking about ditching at the moment)
Earthquaker Monarch

I play an active bass (G&L ASAT with the L-2000 pick up system) and the last fuzzhugger pedal I got in a trade earlier this year didn't sound too well with it. (do believe it was a 3 knob great wall)

I am looking for something that is just a good plain fuzz that is not has ultra mega high gain as my ECT or as tame as the Monarch (which can get pretty damn fuzzy with the volume cranked in my opinion)

I hope there is an FH FX that can do the task. I need all of your sage like advices. :hobbes:

I heard the AB plays well with active basses.

Where other fuzz pedals take your active inputs and make them too hot and muddy, the Algal Bloom gives you the freedom to smash out chords or do soft legato playing while retaining sound clarity and dynamics.

At least that's been my experience with it. I have a 5-string Traben and the low-B destroys a lot of other fuzzes, but I'm a guitarist by trade so I can't speak for certain nuances of the bass.

I should make note, that I'm saying AB while not owning one. That's not to say I haven't owned one in the past, however.

The AB does play nice with active basses; I run my Warwick Streamer LX 6 string through it, and it takes every note.

Another one to consider is the Arc Flash. It's got a LOT more variety of tones in it than the AB does. I've been using it as more of a dirty, faux-SVT sound. It can easily go the other direction and get completely loud and obnoxious walls of fuzz.

Why does this have to be so hard, I have heard so much good stuff about the arc flash too.

It's not hard at all; buy both. :poke:

I'd say to talk to Tom about what you want out of this latest fuzz pedal. He was really good with insight and comments to me when I got my first (now have three) Fuzzhugger pedal.

TRUE, no problems what so ever with ANY of the active basses I've tried it with. I believe it's the active pickup, not the preamp that's supposed not to work with AB-Synth.

See that is where I have the anxiety from. The L-2000 I know for a fact has both. I am just GASing hard for new equipment, I would like to start with tom's work first before I drool / plot to buy the 7 other pedals I am looking at (all with my 15 w practice amp  )

It Does? What'd You know, I though it only had preamp and just additional pickup switching :erm: :idk:

I might be wrong, and I certainly don't want to show off as a total asshole, but:
 :whateva: perhaps You should however check out if both the preamp and the pickup are battery powered (=active) or not? Since I've noticed retailers often claim their products have active pickups when they mean active electronics, meaning regular passive pup & active preamp.
