Generally I frown upon people who go: "Olololololol I want a Fuzz Factory in my guitar how to do that olololo"

But this is awesome. No extra routing of wood so no loss of tone. Useful knobbage. And such a perfect pedal to put in a guitar due to the tone knob sensitivity of it.

Awesome!

Yep. That's the thing, really, I decided I really didn't care for the active sound, so I put in new pickups and used the battery compartment for the effect. As was pointed out, no new wood routing! That's the thing to keep in mind when modding a guitar- you gotta have space to put shit.

I've been thinking what to replace my jagbass' preamp with almost since I bought it. I must say this is highly tempting but I've been playing with the idea of a swell effect like slow gear (byoc copy) in there. Anyway, cool video!

If you decide to go without the preamp, the Jag Bass is really well set up to install an effect. Keep in mind the size of the circuit board you want to install, as the cavities already cut aren't terribly large, and further cutting is known to have its effect on tone and resonance. The Phantom Octave is astoundingly small in its circuit board form, so that worked well for me.

Do what does it for you! I'd likely never put a fuzz or anything else inside one of my guitars (not talking about bass) as I love the ability to swap out guitars, pedals, and amps. My comfort in doing this to my bass lies in the facts that I already have a Phantom Octave pedal, and this is the only effect I use on my bass, and I don't like using pedals in my bass rig.

I got the bass maybe 4 years ago and only used the preamp occasionally for maybe the first year. I don't even have a battery inside and the switch is taped to prevent accidental flips. I would never cut the wood to put anything inside that bass so if I decide to replace the preamp, the new shit has to fit the original space. It's just nice to hear somebody else has had the same kinda ideas and even nicer to see how they've put them into practice.

I do like to use (a lot of) pedals with bass, but it'd be kinda secret weapon to have something installed into the bass ;)
