Question about Reverb Pedals

There's something I've been wondering...My amp has it's own reverb (tube/spring reverb tank)
And, while I like the way it sounds, I've been thinking I might like to get a reverb pedal at some point, to allow for a reverb sound that my amp doesn't produce.
Is this a reasonable goal, or is there simply not enough 'variation' in a reverb sound to warrant getting a separate pedal reverb?

Plenty of variation to be had. Go check out some pedals! The Malekko Spring Chicken, for instance, gets a way bigger sound than the reverb in my Fender Blues Deluxe combo amp. And it'll self-oscillate and feed back and it has an expression pedal input. And that Strymon reverb is a whole other kinda crazy. Just to name two. Ekdahl Moisturizer is bonkers too.

Yea that Ekdahl Moisturizer thing is pretty wacky..but I dunno if I consider it a 'pedal'
I have only heard a few reverb pedals (mostly because I never thought I wanted one, until recently )
I've found a few that seem pretty nice..that Spring Chicken one, for instance..plus ones like the WET and the Ghost Echo..
Just trying to see if anybody has any particular recommendations (and yes, I fully understand the possibility of a deluge of RRR suggestions )

Yeah, there is a lot more to reverb than just spring tanks. I actually don't even like spring reverb at all. I only like big boomy hall reverb, without the spring chirpiness.

The Digitech Hardwire RV-7 has been getting a lot of good reviews, and people also really like the EHX Holy Grail family of pedals.

Well I am really happy with my spring reverb, for 'standard' light reverb stuff.
However, I've been hoping to find a more ambient/spacey kind of reverb...
The kind that darkens your signal some and softens the attack...
I've heard the Ghost Echo produce this sort of sound, as well as the Alien Amps reverb...I'll check out the Strymon and Chiclet,
though i suspect the one is out of my price-range, and the other may be a little too tame

i'm a big fan of the boss rv-5.
i haven't tried the EHX cathedral yet, but i have a feeling it's got a ton of really neat options... reverse reverb!

the digitech rv 7 is a fucking eyesore but i'll be damned if it isn't a really great fucking reverb

EHX Cathedral is as is the Dr Scientist RRR, and the EQD Ghost Echo. Also, the Biyang Tri Verb sounds pretty awesome and is very cheap compared to the others ($75). I know Eric from melx got one a while back.

Well..I've listened to some demos online today.
Really liking the WET and the Ghost Echo.
The Ghost Echo, to me, almost seems more like a slapback echo than a reverb.
love the long-decay, ambient sounds that the WET can do.
From what I understand, Ghost=Analog WET=Digital...is this anything to consider, or just kind of a 'different strokes' sort of thing?

If you can, pick up an EQD Ghost Echo.
They are super awesome.
I run it together with my amp reverb and it sounds so big.

I'm at a deadlock between the WET & the Cathedral. Help!

And I've got a Freeze pedal on the way so the Infinite Hold on the Cathedral isn't really a deciding factor for me. But what I want to know is which one will get me the best Jeff Buckley tonez?

This vid has me leaning towards the WET now but the '66 Princeton might have something to do with that...

I'd never even thought about buying a reverb pedal before I joined this forum. Now after checking out demos of some of these, the reverb on my amp just doesn't sound dramatic enough. I guess I'll just have to add one more pedal to the list...
