I ordered a Chalice last week, and was figuring that it would arrive right at the beginning of my "time off" from regular gigging, allowing me all sorts of time to fiddle with it, find out where it sits on my board, etc..
I have the car loaded on Friday, to get ready to head out to a couple of gigs (gotta be at the theatre by 5pm, and it's a 2 hour drive). I see the mail truck come by as I'm taking my last piece of equipment to the car. The mailperson puts a small, effect-sized package into the mailbox. Curiously, I open the box, and pull out the package. It was my Chalice. Instantly, I run downstairs into the workshop, rip open the box, throw some velcro on it and toss it into the effects bag as we're heading to the gig.
That night, after we set up I swap the Rust Ride for the Chalice and fiddle with the knobs really quickly. Initial impression is that I really like how dry and gate it sounds. It worked pretty well for the couple of spots that I used it (one was an actual song, and the other couple were using it as effect sounds).
The next day, I spend the time on the site to reacquaint myself with what the knobs do, and talk with my guitarist about what to tweak to get a little more bass response out of it. Not really sure what initial settings I had prior, but what we ended up doing was cranking the master gain, rolling the fuzz back a little and just pulling the voltage back for it to start getting angry. Worked out great!
I'll have to make some clips in the next week or so (have a big gig this weekend, so probably won't be before that), but it works beautifully. Thanks for the speedy - and timely - delivery, Tom!

I can see you doing that swap, I used a Rust Ride for a year and it never quite did what I wanted, I tried putting it in a blend with a EQ, still wasn't happy. The I got their Rumble MOD which was better on the lows and had more control over the gain but still didn't do what I wanted it too, I really like HAO stuff for recording but for live I do really wish they had just a little more "meat".

Re: Tom's timing is uncanny
The Rust Ride is okay, but the problem I'm having is that it came to me not 100%; the little piece that holds the circuit board in place was broken loose. I've tried to glue it back, but it still won't work correctly (you can stomp on it to active the effect, but when you stomp on it to turn it off, it'll cut ALL the sound). I like it alright, but definitely see the Chalice as having a lot more nuance and variety. I put a slight delay on it as well to see what it would do, and yowsers! It really opened up.

Got a chance to pull out the Chalice again when a friend was over (and did the "show me what all those pedals do!" thing). Ran it with my Corvette $$ fretless through my Phil Jones Bass Briefcase (2x5") amp. The sound was monstrous. Finally fully figured out how the volt knob reacted, and was able to really get a ballsy, angry, this is why I love fuzz sound. Man oh man oh man. I need to make a demo with this setup so all can enjoy.

I forgot to mention that when my buddy asked if any of the pedals played well with others, I ran the Chalice through my envelope filter (the MXR M82 one) and got that BassBalls on steroids, herion, anything else to make you say "I need to figure out a way to work this into a show."
