TELL ME YOUR FAVOURITE NEIL YOUNG ALBUM AND WHY

Post by Wizard »

I just wanna know what stands out to other people about his work.

I love Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere and After The Gold Rush.

right now i think everybody finally overtook ATGR for the #1 spot in my heart.

such beautiful compositions, and the harmonies, my god, the harmonies. I've been channeling Neil a lot for a song on the new Dangerous Ponies record, the way he writes and arranges his harmonies, and the way he'll build excellent yet off-kilter melodies over certain parts.

This also happens to be a record that when i put it on in the van, everyone in the band knew all the words and it turns out it's legitimately one of all of our favourite albums. I thought that was cool. Down by the river is me & brooks's jam.

and the riffs is cowgirl in the sand? HOW COULD YOU NOT LOVE THIS RECORD.
I've got a fuzzbox and i'm not afraid to use it

After The Gold Rush, because it's... really good?

Harvest isn't far behind though. It's also really good. But a tiny bit less good.

Which ever one Heart of Gold is on.

I really like when NY is really pissed off or really sad, but loud.

Rust Never Sleeps. because rock. and fun. because of finding out "how pocahontas felt". and the way he says llama. and how I laugh every time I hear that refrain of "di-vor-cee".

Nother vote for Rust Never Sleeps. The perfect mix of lite and heavy, no matter what mood you're in this album will fit. Also has a nostalgic tie for me bc it was around the time I really got into playing guitar, and this album was on constant rotation for me. All great tunes but Powderfinger still knocks my socks off. Slightly off topic but my Neil love even drove me to pick this up a few years ago. EPI Goldtop with bigsby added. Fun stuff.

2 way tie between Zuma and Everybody Knows...close second, another 2 way tie between Live Rust and ATGR. My reasoning? My name is Monty, which is a shortened form of Montezuma(which was going to be my name, til my mom intervened). Barstool Blues is one of my favorite songs, because that shit hits so close to home. If you don't believe me,check my sig. There's a line from that tune in there. Everybody Knows: Beauty, rawk, and Neil's tonally angular take on traditional country make it such a "homey" and classic album. Live Rust: Cortez the Killer and Like A Hurrican-LIVE!!! After the Goldrush: Has a lot of that down home feel on Everybody Knows, and it has the gorgeous opener Tell me Why. Thank you for this thread,Wiz. Very near and dear to my heart

Tonight's the Night. Why? Albuquerque.

Also, Time Fades Away is incredible. Especially the 2nd side of the record. Oh man.

I too LOVE Tonights The Night. It's one of my favorite albums of all time. Albuquerque, Lookout Joe, Steppin Out (love Nils Lofgrens solo on that tune), Come On Baby Lets Go Downtown...

But the Neil album that totally changed it for me is Ragged Glory. How a 55 year old dude went in the studio, right when grunge was starting to hit, and out-grunged the grungers is amazing. The overall power and sound of that album is awesome. I listen to it a lot.

Yeah man, that's the truth. That album is fantastic. Rocks so hard.

Either Zuma, Tonight's The Night, On The Beach or After The Goldrush. He just has so much good stuff. I can't decide.

So, I don't know is what I am saying.
