the F# dilemma...
So...
I really wanna tune the guitars on my project down to F#... My only problem is I don't know what kind of instruemnt to tune down... Do I...
a. Get a 6 string Baritone and string it w/ heavy strings and tune it F# B E A D G
b. Get a 7 string Baritone and string it w/ heavy strings and tune it F# B E A D G B
or
c. Go all the way and get myself one of these beauts... http://www.rondomusic.com/intrepiddual828mnghost.html
Anyone got any input? Thanks!

90's Duo Sonic, light strings, tune up to F#.
But really, I'd go with the 6 or 7, that 8 string looks atrocious.

PP... I'd love to get one of these maybe... http://www.rondomusic.com/t7.html, but I'm worried about the scale length.

Re: the F# dilemma...
Depends on the range you want
The 7 will get you low without sacrificing the upper range of notes.
I've had the new deftones on repeat for the past 2 weeks and have seriously considered getting an agile 8 string
I prefer the septor/inceptor to to intrepid.
As for scale, when you add extra strings you don't necessarily need a longer scale to tune low. I guess if you plan on tuning to F# you'll still have a bit of flop, but that might be your thing

I was thinking tune up and if you want the lower sound get one of those new Drop Tune pedals and go an octave down. Cheapest route instead of buying a guitar. They sound good as well.

Re: the F# dilemma...
My band's last 2 recordings have been in dropped F# (like dropped D, but down like 6 steps) and I use regular old guitars. I use Ernie Ball baritone strings, .013-.072 gauge and they stay put just fine. With a good setup, the intonation and slack is comparable to a standard tuned guitar.

Thanks everyone for the input... I have a 7 string right now and I think I'm just gonna run it in F# and see how it do... then if that all works out, I'll grab a nice 6er and string it that way! This is gonna RUUUUUUUUUUUUUUULE!

Cool.
I tuned a normal guitar down to F# before sounded cool... Not as cool as a BassVI. This thread though was kind'a a let down though, I though you were going to ask about a F# on a BASS now those are FUN
I even have a C# on a bass [the same bass
] tuned down to C and that is sick!

Here check this out http://octave4plus.com/ The low F# that SIT makes [165] might be a little floppy for you [I know the SIT C# is for me] so if you need any size these are the guyz.
