it was earlier(est) than the Vox:

there aren't that many legit clones out there because they are apparently pretty hard to get right. There are also so few original ones in existence to compare to. But sometimes you get lucky.
the DAM 1965 is one, the Jerms MKI and Pigdog MKI are all great clones, but are unfortunately just about as hard to get as the originals.

Nope, totally different. Based on the Maestro FZ-1, apparently modded for more sustain by Gary Hirst.
More info than you can shake a stick at here (by Dave Main of DAM)

Done right, it's a bad ass fuzz circuit.

EDIT: Oh shit, ed beat me to it. Ah well.

The Vox two trannie Tone Bender is also a bad ass fuzz box, but completely different -- two trannies instead of three for one thing. Came out in 1967 (MkI was 1965 as ed mentioned). Looks like Robby Krieger used one of those (the Vox), as did Ron Asheton (shocker there, I'd have sworn that was a fuzzrite).
Jeff Beck used a MkI in the Yardbirds, as did Mick Ronson, and Paul McCartney used one on Think for Yourself off Rubber Soul.
It should sound like this:

Awesome -- he is the messiah of fuzz.
Why is it that in 45 years, that thing hasn't been bested?
