you forgot the interstellar orbital which is pretty unique. Also the afterneath and rainbow machine are pretty unheard of effects

i dunno if that really counts. digital delay racks and pedals like the Boss PS-3 were doing the rainbow machine thing 15+ years ago. the afterneath is a multi-tap delay voiced like a reverb which isn't exactly new either.Teej212 wrote:you forgot the interstellar orbital which is pretty unique. i think EQD's strength lies in making weirder effects easier to use and more appealing rather than actually opening up new avenues of sound manipulation, but that's still great.

Unheard of for guitar players =/= unheard of effects, which is important to keep in mind.

I am not saying they don't make some cool stuff. But they aren't exacting heading in the directly of mind blowing, never been done effects.
Like I said, I dig them and I am glad they are so successful (I'd love to be half that big). But they aren't busting down any uncharted territory, just bringing the weird stuff to a bigger audience.

Re: the future is now, where's the cool shit?
There was some comment a few pages back about how ILF is somewhat a closed little world, which is strange because people such as myself find it by googling stuff all the time, but I think this has some merit in this conversation.
When I had my procession I jammed with three or four different groups of people, and every time it was a totally jaw dropping experience for them. It got lots of "I can't believe one pedal can sound that cool" type of responses. I ended up flipping it because it wasn't quite right for me, but everyone else I played with was blown away.
So much of the world just goes tuner, overdrive, delay. I love the band Creative Adult and think they get some really cool guitar sounds. Their pedal board is just delay, overdrive, chorus, delay, all in the boss/mxr world of pedals.
IDK man, I think there is tons of cool stuff, just have to turn the knobs more than usual.

Probably because you don't have a juvenile mind ready to spring into action at a moment's notice.

Personally, my path to getting cool sounds is using pedals in conjunction with live processing on a computer. I'm not sure why guitarists have such a prejudice against using computers, but the crazy shit you can pull out of Max/PD/ppooll (especially if you're doing noise/drone/etc) makes it awesome. It's a lot more learning than 'plug guitar in, turn knob', but if you're willing to put in the effort, there's endless possibilities.

Imagine EHX could take a peek inside their Octave Multiplexer and somehow tranform it into a functioning, non-turdhole sounding guitar pedal. I'd personally champion them as The Miracle Soundbringers of the New Modern Era. Chyeahh.

The affordable analog synth stuff - micro brute, ms-20 mini, seems like good developments.
