um yeah we are, I hate it... btw "culturalism" is a word I'd really like to come to life, i've been thinking about it since the Cannon thing first appeared

No matter how much we may associate the term "racism" with anti-black sentiment, it is not a breed-specific word. That's why "reverse-racism" is a stupid phrase. The only real, literal reverse racism would be treating people of other races as equals or superiors! Like reverse-hate is love, reverse racism is tolerance.

Nick Cannon's performance qualifies as racism if he is doing it in a marginally insulting way. It doesn't matter that Caucasians are the dominant breed in the Euro-American world; to discriminate against or speak insultingly about a different branch of our species is racism. Now I don't like the use of the term because "race" is technically what we all share: the human race. It should be "breedism" because the differences in our appearances and cultures are merely products of our different environments and of our breeding... but that is a different argument.

Reverse racism just refers to giving special privilege to people who for "racial" reasons were previously denied privilege. For example, diversity quotas.

Culturalism nails the gap in understanding, and everything John said about reverse racism I am behind. Its ridiculous.

John, I think what you said about "any racism is bad racism, there is no good" (I paraphrased, hope that's cool), is right, I think that most Anglo-types will probably just shrug this one off though, in lieu of previous.....discrepancies.
I think that's the real wicket we're all sticking on though. Its the weighing up of history against the ideal that racism/cultuiralism in all its forms is eliminated.
Probably a two phase process wherein racism is acknowledged to be stupid by all parties, before we can consolidate as a species to get on with not starving/killing each other, sharing resources equally (except amps and pedals), stop raping the planet AND START EXPLORING THE FUCKING UNIVERSE FOR PROOF OF OTHER INTELLIGENT LIFE.

Again, that's a whole other thread.

In relation to this topic, Nick Cannon has contributed very little to this process.

I'm pretty sure he may have been referring to my obsession with defining and classifying all things precisely. A term, a musical genre, or whatever.

I just try not to talk about racism outside of the anti-black sentiment, because

a) to me, it has the strongest connotation to that (I know there is racism towards other minorities, don't worry)
b) it's really risky to talk about possible racism against white people

and to me it's kind of a whole different thing, because we don't actually get discriminated against based on being white, do we? Pokes like the Cannon thing are not discrimination. They're jokes which work without any boundaries. Yes, they are specifically aimed at a certain demographic, but we could make such jokes about ANYONE

No we do, although I don't particularly care about it. I have not been hired for jobs before explicitly (I was actually told this by the interviewers on several occasions) because I was a white male. In the scheme of things though, not getting a job isn't that big of a deal. This was a number of years ago and I discovered you can live on free saltine crackers for a surprisingly long amount of time. I found work elsewhere eventually. The female employees get special privileges at my current job, but again, I don't think it's very important.

bottom line of the whole thing an everything in the world is that we focus too much on our differences and not enough on our similarities
