Here I come crashing the party:

DR Neons (in various colors, Pink at the moment.. probably orange or yellow next), or Black Beauties. In both cases I take the .11s

So my wife got me some chrome flats for christmas and because t-40'a are string through they are not long enough, on my low string the wrap comes down to about half way through the first fret :grumpy: has anyone tried cutting off the wrap? im looking in muddys direction. With all the basses you have i got to believe that at least one is string through AND if you exclusively use chromes maybe you can help me out.

Mudbucker-P: Ernie Ball Cobalts for 5-string, .45-.130 minus the .45 (B standard)
Mudbucker/acoustic: Chromes, .50 - .105 (B standard, somehow the tension is good)

SGV-300: Chromes, .13 - .56 (B standard)
Kawai: Chromes, .10 - .48 (weirdness)

On my gigging guitars, Curt Mangan (or Ernie Ball if I can;t find Mangan's) Pure Nickel 10-50 with a wound G string. I play chords 99% of the time and the wound G sounds way nicer. You guys complaining that your fat .24 plain G's sound dead should really give wound G's a try.

On my sitting-on-the-couch-watching-TV guitars I use regular 10's, usually D'addario but I'm not too picky. I tried a set of the EB Cobalts recently, didn't sound radically different to me, but they definitely felt different under my fingers.

Yeah wound Gs make all the difference it turns out. Definitely never going back.

I can still bend with mine. :idk: It takes a lot more force but I can bend up a tone from around the 12th fret on, which is all the bending I need. I can see how it would be annoying if you did a lot of large bends though.

Especially bends in the first 5 frets. 12's with a wound G took awhile for my fingers to build up the bending strength. I think I may go back down to 11's on my next string change and reap the benefits of my now freakishly strong digits.

Has anyone tried the newer D'arddio EXL strings? They're supposed to be more balanced as far as strong tension. My brother has hand problems and so he pays a lot of attention to things like string tension. The fact that I've never realized that there can be up to 2 pounds of difference between adjacent strings makes a lot of sense as to why with some string gauges, my barre chords suck or one finger needs to be stronger than the others (for bends, etc.)

i sometimes use Gretsch Chet Atkins strings, which have a wound and a plain G in the .010 set. the wound G sounds really nice on a Telecaster, and since it's a .017 or .018 it's still bendable.

I asked Kevin at EGC to put a set of .12's on the Obstructures. I missed them so bad. I wonder what brand strings EGC uses?
