Hey that's how I do it on my JM. Strum like normal, trem arm right under my arm behind my wrist, bob my arm slightly.the raytownian wrote:I "play" the tremolo on my guitar sometimes too. It's hard for me to hold it and pick simultaneously, though, so I put the underside of my forearm over the tremolo bar and strum around the the bottom end of the fretboard while spasmodically wiggling my forearm over the tremolo bar to make it go weeeooowwoorrorooorwwrooorr. I think it sounds pretty, amusical as my blind idiot improv-playing is.
I also only fret my bass with three fingers, and my pinky usually ends up behind the neck somehow. IDK why, it just does. I've done that for 20 years at least.

I used to do that sometimes but it felt like a bad habit and I don't think I do it anymore?

Yes, I definitely used to do that. It was like my pinkie was an atrophied withered deformity and would just go hide back there, away from the harsh light of the sun. I'm definitely not conscious of doing it anymore but will have to pay more attention. At some point, I switched to using my pinkie for power chords, instead of my third finger. Maybe that helps keep it out in front.
This is a very impressive collection of Roto Toms. That's 21 Roto Toms in all. That is only $33.00 a Roto Tom.

Oh it's totally a bad habit. Playing live I'm incredibly self conscious about it and make sure I keep my pinky out front where it should be, even if I don't use it. But at home or when recording I fall back on my old ways without thinking.MechaGodzilla wrote:I used to do that sometimes but it felt like a bad habit and I don't think I do it anymore?

Was way into Nirvana when I started playing bass so of course I had to hold my pick with my middle finger and thumb. Played like that for years. I guess I stopped doing it when I switched over to playing mostly guitar. I think Krist only did it so he could sling his bass that extra inch lower.

Having the guitar *that* low seems... somewhat uncomfortable.
