I do that. My hands are not large but I see chords and I see scales and I think, "Yeah, I'm not doing that" so I either change tuning or voice it differently. I just did this with a scale and I can't remember the name.Invisible Man wrote:And I play a lot of chords with unusual voicings because my hands are meat hooks and I can't play regular chords very easily.

I like really meaty picks. At one point I used those hipster clear acrylic plectrums that are like 3mm, and I even used a 4mm for a while. Then I realized paying more than a few cents for a single pick was stupid, and settled on those XL Jazz picks.
Evidently I also strum my guitar like a frustrated caveman. I realized every guitar I play buzzes a little, and my buddy said he rarely gets buzz ever. Otherwise I might not have noticed.

Contrary to the aforementioned thick pick sentiment I drift strongly towards thin picks; I own mostly .71 & .96mm Gator Grips and .73 & .88mm Tortex. In a pinch I will use 1.0mm Tortex because my band mate uses those, but I have tried the 1.14mm Gator Grips & Delrin 500 and those cramp my hands the fuck up. Even on a 34" or 35", 4 or 5 string bass I don't want to go heavier than a 1.0mm Nylon.

I just started really trying to use a pick. I like .60 - .73
I'd like to find something larger than standard 351 and smaller than the 346 rounded triangle. Not sure if it's out there. I'll have to get used to standard.

Two things:
I hold my Strat tremolo bar in my palm ala Kevin Shields and lightly depress it as I strum.
I play a few really simple open chords where I have can just move a couple of fingers. So, like I play a Em quite a lot, a G with only the two bass strings fretted, then I can move them down a string and it is a C. I'm not a good guitarist.

You're not alone! There's a lot of possibility for expression there. I didn't understand why vibrato pedals existed for years because I never had an electric guitar without a bar before.chuckjaywalk wrote:Two things:

I "play" the tremolo on my guitar sometimes too. It's hard for me to hold it and pick simultaneously, though, so I put the underside of my forearm over the tremolo bar and strum around the the bottom end of the fretboard while spasmodically wiggling my forearm over the tremolo bar to make it go weeeooowwoorrorooorwwrooorr. I think it sounds pretty, amusical as my blind idiot improv-playing is.
