welcome to the age of the Internet!

to further clarify my "it doesn't make sense comment"

Customers are getting the peachfuzz, no different than a regular production model.
No special color/switch/whathaveyou, and the customer is paying retail, so not even a decent discount?

Ok so how about Fran then, does she get something extra out of the Kickstarter?
NOPE. Kickstarter takes 10% of the total raised I believe (if it's not 10%, it is some number close). So she is making less per pedal...
Not really a win for her either....

But like jwar wasn't really her customer anyway...
But UNLIKE jwar I love Kickstarter, and was super happy to at least hear about this opportunity!

You're welcome, BLOOD EAGLE!

Yeah, I thought some people'd be into this. I'm subscribed to her YouTube channel. So, when I saw that she'd uploaded a video about the Kickstarter, I thought I'd share it.

As far as Kickstarter campaigns go, it's pretty no frills. I don't think frills are the point though. Reaching the goal to get funded is. And I think there's a really good chance she'll get there.

So, complain as some people may about how she went about this or if the pedals aren't really worth what she's asking for them, there seem to be enough people willing to commit to get this thing off the ground. :idk:

She only needs to sell 17 pedals (16 1/2 really) to make the goal, I'm sure there are enough doctors chasing ze Floyd tonezzzz on the weekend to cover that easy.....

Why are you jumping on me? I never once said anything negative about kickstarter OR Fran.

jwar wrote:Kickstarters are fucking dumb though. I'll agree with that sentiment. If I wanted this pedal, and I don't, I'd be into it. I think that if she'd used a different approach it'd be better. I mean, how many failed Kickstarter projects do there have to be before people learn their lesson? I would have thought by now, it was clear that it's not good business.

Also, I'd like to point out what some may be thinking in regards to old school boutique. I don't care about some of these points, but a LOT do.

-300 plus for a three knob fuzz is just stupid
-jacks ought to be on top with the power supply because I guarantee you that enclosure has enough room in it
-on that note, make the damn thing smaller
-the graphics are not that great and the color is hideous

Ok that's just a few. I'm not against this at all, but I don't think the price is right and I don't think that Kickstarter is a smart business move.
[writing a letter] Dear Mr. President, there are too many states these days. Please eliminate three. I am NOT a crackpot.

But I kid. Pretty much on board with all of that. Especially since this is a circuit that is known to DIY-ers. Under $50 or $300--that's a tough call.

Ok I'll say I apologize because I'm being an asshole. BUT! I do think that people are being way to overly sensitive about this. I said in my post that I don't agree with some of what I pointed out, and was just pointing out why folks may not be into it.

I also said previously if it was the Bassweat I'd be more interested. So my comments were not meant to offend, I just speak in a very direct fashion. I always have. So apologies for the abrasiveness.

I don't think anyone has the need to apologize here. We're all just talking. We all have opinions. No one is being a resounding asshole. :snax:

So is she doing the boards herself again? Is it only her doing everything? It seemed like, she was at one point going to have someone else do the pedals for her?
(no specific agenda, just talking)

 No worries. I went back and reread the thread thinking I said something & figured out what likely happened.

That's some good questions. You mentioned Caroline and on the topic of doing things for yourself vs outsourcing, I know for a fact he's outsourced work. In fact he may be a shadow builder, but I'll never know for sure. There are so many now, it's nuts.

I would hope Fran was doing everything like before. It adds value IMO. As much as I like PCBS, it's refreshing to see the ones that make their own still. That shows hard work and dedication.

Now I'm going to have to buy one of these just because I was a negative nancy. lol

Yeah, I agree. jwero has made some valid points of contention.

It's seems kinda vague as to what Fran is actually doing herself this time around. I doubt she'll be etching pcbs.
