I'm always thinking about adding a transparent overdrive
Amd I the only one who thinks Lee Ranaldo is kind of a douche? His "song" on every SY record always kind of eats it.....

B is an incredibly valid point. The worst thing Bill could do (at least to TGP) would be to sell his circuit. But with all of those nightmares around it... Why wouldn't he?D.o.S. wrote:pelliott wrote:Soul food is something white people have shamelessly stolen and whitened up. Just like the blues. Which white people use Klons for. Boom. A) I think it's awesome that they're offering a cheap Klon, because that means the circuit will be more available to more people. If I was some 14 year old John Mayer-o-phile playing P&W on weekends and pouring over TGP in my spare time I'd be beyond stoked that I could snag a Klon for about the price for a bag of good weed.
That I don't smoke, because I'm a 14 year old John Mayer-o-phile playing P&W on weekends. Regardless, one day I'll get into chicks and orgies and The Metal, only to relapse into Mormonism and find me a hot blonde wife who will put up with my newly revived love of transparent overdrive.
B) I think it would be silly to not at least consider the idea that Klon-man is getting some kind of kickback from EHX, which is why they're referencing his product directly in their ad copy?

Is TGP full of people buying original Klon's at exorbitant prices? or are expensive clones of too? i dont there.hazelwould wrote:The worst thing Bill could do (at least to TGP) would be to sell his circuit. But with all of those nightmares around it... Why wouldn't he?

I do agree EHX have got boring, but I'll never understand the appeal of a pedal that might not sound like another of the same model. That's fuckin lame, shelling out money for something you should like but daaaang some dude grabbed the wrong component that day so it sounds like ass. Nope.rustywire wrote:I'm with you on the big boxes. A big part of their allure is the fact that pre-bankruptcy, no 2 are exactly alike. You can open up a dozen of any Muff, EM, DMM etc and upon comparing the circuit board you'll see *substitutions* were made here and there with regards to which diodes and caps were used where and how many (substituting 2 of a kind for 1 of another).
The builders used whichever parts they grabbed that were (close to) within spec...and being that all electronics are not equal, this leads to deviation and supposed *mojo* in certain units, in certain rigs where others sound good but not magical like the special ones. It's like a quest for the grail.
The modern big boxes and XO series abandon this bricoleur experimentation for standardized, cost-efficient production. They're pretty much all the same inside. Hear one example of their new pedals, you've heard them all. That's really sad...

As Scruffie elaborated, the variety wasn't a matter of "wrong components" being used, just different ways to go about achieving the desired values. Some sound better than others, but 2 similar models will perform the same function.monkeydancer wrote:I do agree EHX have got boring, but I'll never understand the appeal of a pedal that might not sound like another of the same model. Mojo can suck it, if I play a buddy's pedal and think it's rad, when I buy one myself I want it to sound the same, that's kind of the whole point of having a set 'model'.
This whole thing is dumb. Don't have any sympathy for the klon guy not getting his money at this point; good or not, the pedal business is how it is, and people figure out circuits they want fast so to keep ahead you gotta give people what they want.
But mentioning the pedal you're cloning directly in ad copy? Not classy. And seriously that's an ugly pedal.
