What makes you say that?

I did some fancy math on the JM, I'm better off doing a warmoth build.
Plus that would be more fun that way

Care to share the math? I've never built anything but pedals but think a guitar could be fun, especially if the price is right.

The only stock thing Id keep would be the body itself, and even then I'd prefer ash (or maybe even :gasp: mahogony).

I'd be paying $450 for the body, and you are stuck with the fugly blacktop finishes.
Warmoth bodies are about $185-200 and for another $100-200ish you can pick your own finish

The price only goes up from there, new neck, pickups, electronics, possibly bridge etc.

...but if I didn't already have a real JM that blacktop is pretty appealing at the price.

sunburst jm doesnt look too bad. i may wait til i get a coupon to musicians friend as well. seems like a decent project guitar tho a used classic player jm cant cost much more than this so

Don't bother. The 20% off coupon I planned to use is worthless for Fender, and basically all other brands that MF carries.

jr.com has them now - supposedly shipping in a week or two. I'm ordering mine today.

Try giving Mf a call to order them with your coupon. Alot of times they will override the system just to get the sale.

Eh. Not worth the risk of waiting. I got a deal (not 20% off, but almost 10%.) through JR, and they're shipping in the next week or so. That was worth it to me.

I don't see what the "big project" part would be.

Odds are they're just CP bodies. Which means the routing and everything is there - just empty.

A CP Jazzmaster pickguard and a few parts and you've basically got a CP Jazzmaster. For like $500.

Personally, I'm leaving it stock for a while first. I'm betting that the HB in the bridge will be low output, which could be awesome. Plus, adding in that middle position could give some really unique JM tones.

i'd probably get one of those JMs.

i like the idea of the jag switches and i see why so many people like them, but i don't think i'd ever use them except to go bridge - bridge/neck - neck, tbh.

Played a Blacktop Tele at GC earlier today, and it was really nice. Given the usual noise level of GC, I couldn't hear as well as I would've liked, but I liked the neck bucker more than the bridge. It was great to play; the neck seems to be a standard MIM neck, so it's fatter than the Classic Vibe necks, which is definitely a pro in my book, and it doesn't have the huge frets like the roadworn fenders. It was actually well set up; decent string height and no buzzy spots. It didn't look that bad in person either (this one was black on black with the rosewood fingerboard), although I would probably end up changing the knobs. I have a feeling this line is going to be a big hit, seeing as it's not too much more expensive than the classic vibe line.
