The first "good" guitar I ever bought - a 1990 Firebird, the year Gibson started making them again. Quality was really good that year. I got it secondhand in 1991, but it was one of those never-been-played deals that someone had bought, kept in the case and then decided to sell. Even had the factory strings on it. A Firebird was the one guitar I'd always wanted, I saw it hanging in the shop window, went back two or three times to play it and do the sums in my head and eventually bought it. Was my number one guitar for years and years and now it's practically vintage Last year I threw in a pair of Zhangbucker vintage-spec Firebird pickups to replace those ceramic magnet/high output things Gibson still use in all their Firebirds. Added a couple of Russian PIO tone caps while I was at it. Completely transformed the sound of the guitar and made me fall in love with it all over again. It rules.

isn't it great when that happens? cheers, nice, classic Firebird (I simply deny the fact that these are the "reverse" FBs)
Ohh nice bridge... is that one of them mechano autotuning jobbers? I have seen something like that on Ben Weinman's guit. During the rig rundown he was playing with the peg and it stayed pretty much in tune. DOES IT REALLY WORK?
I decided I didn't like the 3 saddle bridge. I'm totally anal about intonation being as precise as possible (I check intonation just about every week) and I just couldn't get it right, so I put on an ashtray sixer instead.
I was worried the bridge might nip the strings when using the trem, but it works fine. Then again, I don't really give the trem much use anyway. Heavier use might make it nip a bit. but gentle swells is all good. Stays in tune better than I expected.
It's a solid workhorse. The grain on the top is wonderful. It looks like tiger bread. It's swamp ash underneath, but I have no idea what the top is.
