You’ve always been a man after my own heart!

(My drumming sucks so bad I absolutely love it!)

if i had a place that didn't share walls with a neighbor, you bet your sweet bippy i'd have a little Gretsch kit with one up/two down, a big deep ride, a Paiste crash, and a stunt cymbal to be named later.

Same, but I'm working to make it happen (the place where I can have drums).
Also, I would like to add to the "not justifiable" gear list:
The old Gretsch Duo Jet i played about 10 years ago in NY: affordable at the time (not for my pockets), but now probably it costs more than 4k.

in the winter of 1982-83 i played a first-run 1958 Gretsch Country Gentleman. it was perfect. my friend who was with me said "that's your guitar." i said "i know." but it was $600 and i was homeless at the time, so i put it back on the rack. it's haunted me ever since, and they're like $7000 now if you're lucky.

Man, if I had the place where I could play it, I would totally make my own set out of non-matching pieces. Probably a very small bass drum like those fold-together jazz kits, a lucite floor tom and two hanging toms to be decided upon on a whim. Rototoms might be fun. Plus two opposite snare drums, some deep, resonating wooden snare and one of those super high snares made of metal.
