Things You Want But Can’t Justify Buying
This seems like a topic we indirectly cover some places. My irrational gear lust is the Aelita synthesizer. On paper it has a very very similar structure to my Roland SE-02. It does a couple of things my SE-02 can’t do. The SE-02 on the other hand has a ton of things it can do that the Aelita can’t. The biggest things the SE-02 can do that the Aelita can’t are play nicely (i.e. sync via midi or cv) with other gear, fit in a backpack, and do basic FM/pulsewidth mod.
So, even though I love the sound and look of the Aelita, I can get “close enough” with the SE-02, and the SE-02 is a much more convenient synthesizer. This places it in the territory of gear that I’d love to own, but can’t practically justify owning.

What’s the gear you’d own if it were more practical to do so?

Everything pretty much is a purchase I can’t really justify other than “I wanted it”.

Re: Things You Want But Can’t Justify Buying
I have a saved search on Reverb for a Hot Hand controller, and every time one comes up in my feed I'm like, "Hmmm...." but my intended use is really kinda a easy showy trick to make wee-woo sounds with my hand when my band plays.
solo (mostly ambient): https://heraclitusakimbo.bandcamp.com/
duo (electroacoustic vibration exploration): https://wenderlypark.bandcamp.com/
trio (tapes/voice/clarinet/synth/poems): https://ourwaytofall.bandcamp.com/
band (spontaneous kosmische): https://stargoon.bandcamp.com/
I also help co-ordinate Okta, ILF's collaborative community ambient project: https://okta.bandcamp.com

More guitars. I have four, and I’m only a beginner/intermediate player (originally a bass player).

Could do damn well with just a Squier Strat, Line6 M5 and a Microkorg.
But I want a Monomachine and a Boss SY1000.

Among other synths, I really want a K2x00 with the sampler option. Past strong experience draws me. But my keyboard skills have gone to shit as has my time to program such a beast, which is where it is at for those—if you’re deep enough into the system, you can do almost anything. So I balk at pretty good deals that I see.

More guitars, specifically an aluminium one. They're heavy, expensive, I clearly don't need one in any sense because the guitars I have are good. But .. want?

EGC value increases and the long waits for new have mostly cured me of this.coldbrightsunlight wrote:More guitars, specifically an aluminium one. They're heavy, expensive, I clearly don't need one in any sense because the guitars I have are good. But .. want?

I still have the lust. I have no practical need for this, but I still want one in spite of the fact that I’ve been rocking the same guitar for over ten years.jirodreamsofdank wrote:EGC value increases and the long waits for new have mostly cured me of this.coldbrightsunlight wrote:More guitars, specifically an aluminium one. Oh definitely not EGC haha I have heard enough horror stories. The places I'd go would be Tttides or Nude. They make nice things.
Goroth also hit a couple of my others though
