DUDE. The Chrono (Trigger and Cross) soundtracks are some of my favorite.

I tend to listen to stuff that's not what I'm trying to write, if I'm writing. Jazz, classical..... I want to find more Guqin music. I like the minimalist approach in a lot of Asian music.

I can't stand being in an air conditioned room with the windows shut, colorful vinyl and ducks are ok... It's 100 here and I can't drive with the windows up and I haven't turned on my A.C. at home yet...

AC goes on when it gets past 75, I can't take the heat at all, it just makes me into a very grumpy person.

Reading everyone's posts I just don't really see any musical influence as odd. Unless you rally see your self as a player of one style anyway. Like I can say I am hugely influenced by Indian classical music and western classical music, as well as avant garde classical and free jazz as much as metal and punk/post punk and industrial/noise and could rattle off names in said "styles" but after a while it's just music and none of it is unusual to me per say. Now a LOT of people consider my taste in music unusual so does this mean that I [and I'd say most or you] are just very unusual in general.

I think it's more along the lines of things that wouldn't easily be traced back through your jams,

Like, I grew up with and totally love early Fairport Convention. but I don't anyone can hear Sandy Denny in what I play.

I do get your point, but I think that as a musician one is influenced by almost every thing they hear either in a good or bad way :idk:

personally i think its weird when people who are serious about playing AREN'T musical omnivores. so i can't really say anything "unusual" (relative to me/my playing) has influenced me.

thats why i fucking hate the whole shred scene. its being serious about playing in a REALLY narrow way.

but idk i guess relative to most guitar playing i'm really influenced by rappers and piano players these days.
,':{I> ... your move, Trebek.

Every once in a while I detect some ska and funk sneaking into my clean rhythm playing.

I catch this in my playing a lot. I'll be jamming for a while and start to feel like I'm playing Zeppelin songs, haha.

I'd probably say Rush. It doesn't shine trough very often anymore, but when I was old enough to be aware of music, my dad gave me tons of rush albums. I still semi-secretly love them.

And tons of old video games. It shows a lot in my electronic stuff.

Mega man X, Earthbound, and Sonic the hedgehog. Drum and bass, jazz, and romantic style compositions are my main but that's not unusual

Daniel Higgs (Lungfish) said something similar once (or maybe more than once, I wouldn't have a way to verify that). He said that everything he every heard was an influence even if he didn't like it. He said there are things he hears that he knows he must avoid, and things he hears that he wants to emulate.

Interestingly, I'd say Higgs's solo work is something I hear that I feel like I must avoid.

Our band is sort of a sludge / noise rock hybrid, but I love 80s Eurotrash stuff (The Cure, Bauhaus, Joy Division, etc.).
