well,
seriously I should still be getting rid of stuff
but the heart wants what the heart wants
and contemplating that T-crossing ahead (and the gear purchases each direction commands)
is much more fun than putting up ads
either "In The Box"
A Surface Pro, Bitwig and some MIDI controller(s), possibly a new audio interface to go with it
to have endless possibilities + touchscreen on a real OS
the modern approach that could do it all, start to finish
or "Real Boxes"
Octatrack. After 10 years of dreaming finally getting one
still vast possibilities, but in a fixed hardware, purpose built
This would get company in form of some used synth cheapos & a NDLR
RealBoxes would be much more fun to interact with
but more clutter to set up
and more problematic to go from jam to finished track
both cost
I'd say more time & energy is currently going to
looking at options & trying to justify the cost
than encouraging myself to just practice & write songs on the accoustic
the end justifies the means?
we'll see

I did that too at one point with the Wolf Computer. I think the most I had at one time was three? I’ve just resigned myself to the fact that music production that requires technology will always change as new technology is invented and old technology becomes obsolete and stops working. Forced innovation through obsolescence.

EGC/aluminum stringed thing, so if we're talking irrational let's just say an original TB1000, because
what's another four or five grand anyway?
A Syntryx would be neat, but so would an actual EMS Synthi and the money to have one upkeep'd for future reasons
And for that matter? An upgraded by Juno 60 because why not

As much as I hate softsynths, how else will I ever kind of experience a Fairlight, Buchla Easel or ARP 2600 before I shuffle off this mortal coil?

At least there are lots of YT clips of people playing the real deals, for now

..or just about anything else with a quad KT88 power section, for dem massive cleans
way too ear-shattering / back-breaking / wallet-destroying for me to justify...

Modular Syntharsizar! Like I really want to get into it but I'm also just focusing on guitar more. I haven't used a synth in months.
New bass cabs too. Don't wanna wreck my guitar combo but I also can't play at the volumes where I would need a bass amp

There's lots I'd kind of idly like to have, but the desire doesn't burn. A really nice Strat, one of the more recent upscale Jazzmasters; not to mention any number of pedals. But what I always always want is AMPS. 100w combos, 1x15s, 2x12s... I just want a bunch of loud combos. This was only marginally justifiable before gigging ended, and now it is just absurd, both for pandemic reasons and my having moved out of a big house and into a small apartment. But someday when I get a house again... look out!

i've gone over to 1×12 and 2×12 cabinets than i can use with several of my amps. i'm going to change out the Greenback in my AC15 for an Alnico Blue, which will give me a Greenback 1×12 to go with the Weber D120 clone. i'm also going to get some Fane copies--either Weber or Reeves--and put them in a 2×12. i will probably also do a 2×12 with the Alnico Jensens. and i need a bass speaker (and amp). i'm thinking a 15" aluminum Hartke would be right in my sweet spot.

Mostly amps and cabs, since I already got stuff that sounds good and work with the different projects I'm involved with.
But I keep on GASing for 412s and 215s all the time.
And guitars. Got way to many guitars as it is(and barely playing any of them), and a new alu-neck(TTTides) on the way, but I still lust for new guitars every day.

I would love to buy a better quality version of pretty much every instrument I own, but I can never justify it because everything I own works perfectly for me as it is.
Specifically:
I would love to upgrade my Fender Excelsior to something like a Fender Bassbreaker 007 or Bassbreaker 15, but I can't justify buying a new amp when the Excelsior works perfectly for me
I would love to buy a Mule resonator, but they're stupid expensive and my modified Epiphone Biscuit works perfectly for me
I would love to upgrade my acoustic to a higher end Godin or Seagull, but my Simon and Patrick Songsmith works perfectly for me

The Excelsior is a rad amp!
Had one of the Pro baby blue ones as my main amp years ago. Miss it!
What speaker do you have in yours?
If you still have the stock speaker in a brown Excelsior you should swap it for a Eminence Legend 1518 and stop wanting other amps.

It is the stock speaker still. I've toyed with the idea of upgrading the speaker and swapping the tubes a few times, but every time I look at prices, I can't justify that either

I actually got the roar years ago because of you haha. Wish I’d have held onto it.

These things (not specific about color or which one exactly - I think they were made in a couple of variations over the years) stroll through my mind since what seems like forever, so maybe 2-3 years. But they're horribly expensive, especially for what would probably end up being a novelty/third guitar.
Also any kind of Bass. I find that I would probably suck more and enjoy myself more at playing bass than most other instruments. So yeah, some used shortscale should be up on the horizon.

my degree of enjoyment rises the less competent on the instrument i am. bass is more fun than guitar; keyboards, piano in particular, are more fun than bass; and drums are my favorite despite barely being able to play country-rock songs. i'm all set to be the poor man's Ralph Molina.
