I'm starting to think the one I tried was broken or something?

So does the level control on anyone else's digiverb work like a blend control? Meaning you turn the dry volume down as you turn up the effect level, opposed to just adding the amount of reverb on top of your regular dry tone

My understanding is that is how it's supposed to work. It's a mix control- anything past 12 o'clock should reduce the dry signal. If it wasn't a mix, you couldn't do 100% wet (which i think you can do in all the modes? not sure).

For huge and epic reverbs I'm using my laptop with Live's verb or a VST. I basically want something that can do a convincing spring - like a deluxe reverb, and a hall or plate for a little bigger verbs.

Man I tried this. Sold my SPACE for an RM-1N. But nothing can scratch my itch.
I've tried Live's verb, Valhalla stuff, waves stuff and even tried my hand at tweaking Reaktor ensembles in order to get something I truly loved.
Now I'm thinking of buying another SPACE to keep on my desktop and use as an external effect in live. It's fucking killing me.

But for straight ahead guitaring, nothing fucks with the RM-1N. At all.

I've also owned the digiverb - the reveraw is great. I ever really used or was wowed by the other verbs on it.

My reverb quest so far:

RV-5 - Been a while since I owned it. It was my first reverb when I was a gear noob and had no real idea about how to use it. I sold it before I was able to give it a proper chance, but a bandmate has one and my overall impression is that they are kind of bland, but they are a solid enough choice if you want shorter, simpler verbs.

Verbzilla - Been a while since I owned it too. Used it when I first joined a post-rock band. It worked well for that, but I only ever used the cave mode, which was decent from memory, but I actually have no idea about the rest of the modes on that thing.

Stereo WET - My first boutique reverb. Used in the same post-rock band as the verbzilla. Sounded huge at the time, and I still have it, but these days I am mostly underwhelmed by it. EDIT: That said I just got it out of its box for the first time in ages and loaded the Grand Hall reverb onto it for shits and giggles with the updated Expanse loader. It was pretty decent

RV-3 - Has its issues, and it doesnt always sound amazing, but the delay/verb options are nice for when I want to grab one pedal and just noodle around.

RV-2 - A bit noisy, and not all modes sounded great, but i remember it did have one mode that sounded amazing. I actually think it probably sounded better than my RV-3. Shoulda kept that one!

Flint - Solid verbs, but I still felt like it lacked something. Couldnt put my finger on it though.

SPACE - TOO MUCH PEDAL. Arguably the best reverb pedal you could ever hope to own, but for me, a guy who likes simple gear, it was too overwhelming. I wanted a reverb pedal, I got a computer. That said, I kind of want to revisit this one day though.

Context - Sold my first one, realised my mistake, bought another one. My favourite reverb pedal as it stands. SO LUSHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Rub-A-Dub Deluxe - Build this one up from the 1776 board and it has been super useful to have around. I grab this pedal first 90% of the time. It is simple, yet versatile enough to cover most of the sounds I might want to use.

H9-I know you said the Space was underwhelming but maybe you didn't dive in enough. I have found it to be anything and everything I could ever want in a verb.

Mr. Black Eterna Gold. Yes it's a shimmer verb, I know, I know! It's fucking killer though. Stupid easy and can be had on a discount when Jack runs a sale.

Red Panda Context. Seriously one of the most versatile and amazing pedals ever.

Dr. Scientist Reverberator (FOR REALZ amazing)

Earthquaker Avalanche Run is fucking amazing too but has delay.

I'll think of more later. I'm tired and slightly horny.

Take a look at the Death By Audio Reverberation Machine
The bright setting feels very springish to me, the dark feels very plate like to me. Its very pretty and tame with the gain down.
That and the Supermoon Chrome are my favorite reverbs, Supermoon is more plate like and can be a very normal nice verb at lower settings.

Both of those make very nice verbs and also have a lot of more extreme character possible with them.

Yeah no..That's the thing actually, it works like a blend control, like on a dirt pedal, instead of how level controls work on most reverb and delay peds, where you add the amount of effect on top of your unaeffected signal. I just found it extremely annoying that I couldn't crank the reverb level *without* going full wet. Most reverb pedals allow you to add a big washy pool of reverb to whatever you're playing, where as the digiverb *replaces* your dry tone with the dialed in amount of reverb

Edit: Wait, I might be wrong there...I guess the digiverb's level control works like that of the timebender. It works like any other level control, untill it's at 90%, where it will completely cut the dry signal and go fully wet. Just read that online somewhere, I'll have to check again on the one I got.
