On a reverb quest again

bitquest verb is indeed beautiful. I had a lot of trouble slamming it tho.. but that's on me I guess cause I like to crank my fuzz to line levels.

space is fucking amazing. does everything I need it to. master vol, pre post, subtle or over the top. love it to bits

the neunaber stuff is really fucking awesome, too. I think about getting rid of the space for the simplicity, but then I turn some knobs

the digitech polara is pretty solid as well, and is relatively inexpensive. it doesn't really have a tone control (unless you count the "liveliness" control), but I like all the patches for the most part. It's a really simple "plug and play" type reverb where you don't need to put much effort into dialing it in.

Like a few others here, use mostly an RM-1N, also have a Space and a Bitquest on the way (reverb is friend).

Honestly I think an RM-1N might suit your needs. They can be tamed down enormously if you want and give you a lot of sculpting options if you want. They can do the "spring reverb tank on fire" type sound real well, as well as the "cave-dweller building explosives" stuff. Sure it's more meant for the monstrous stuff, but it is really, really good at the other stuff. If UC will always be recommending the Bitquest as the verb of all verbs, I'll probably be doing the same for the RM-1N. At least until the Bitquest arrives, when I may be swayed...

For the record, I've also had a RM-1N on my board for the last two years.

Not sure if I'd call it the "verb of all verbs". I like how simple it is, and it doesn't impose on whatever you have in front of it (not filtered). It let's all frequencies through. Expression control of the size. Powerful tone and mod controls. Dedicated volume and mix knobs that interact well. Dirt mode. Other algorithms at the twist of a knob if you're feeling adventurous. It's a great deal if you don't need 10-20 different types of reverb.

For rock and roll EHX Holy Grail's spring and hall and RV-3 plate's are my favorite. I don't do rock and roll very often tho...so Space for me too.

Holier grail: Meh. Big and super underwhelming.
Biyang Triverb: Impressive, especially for the money. But noisy as hell, and I can't vouch for the build quality/reliability.
Hardwire RV-7: No complaints what so ever, ridiculous price-to-awesome ratio. It actually makes me now wonder about the digitech Polara.
Digitech digiverb: Yuck. The mix controk is retarted, doesn't work like it should.

Personal favorite: RV-3. Keep coming back to it. Stereo reverb AND delay in a small package. Reverbs that are just gritty enough and not too p&w-ish clean or dreamy, and crystal clear delays that cut through a mix like...Well, like a digital delay
The lack of control over the reverb parameters is a shame though, it's the only thing that makes me look at other stuff. Too bad the Avalanche Run costs way more than what I can justify, not being in a postrock/shoegaze band and all...:/

Also: Too bad there's no pedal version of the Alesis Nanoverb

For huge and epic reverbs I'm using my laptop with Live's verb or a VST. I basically want something that can do a convincing spring - like a deluxe reverb, and a hall or plate for a little bigger verbs.

I only meant it in a "verb that will almost always be the recommendation of choice" type way. I'm actually 95% sure it was your demo of the RM-1N that completely sold it for me haha, and your consistent enthusiasm for the Bitquest did the same again. I imagine you've cost people a few thousand in RM bucks overall by now!

I would consider the MXR M300 over the Blue Sky. Other than that, get an Alesis Wedge.

If anyone was interested in a Wedge, I've got one I'd be willing to part with. Sounds killer, but has more controls than I actually use.

Here's my long winded "every reverb I've ever used" post:

Digitech Digiverb - I loved mine, but it broke. Only caveat was a volume drop above 50% mix. Best MBV verb I've ever heard or used, including the Midiverb II I had. Gated was legendary.

EHX Nano Grail - Good enough. Liked the spring and hall, disappointed in flerb. I'd buy another just for fun!
Boss RV-3 - I'll always have this. Sometimes I think it's the best reverb ever, sometimes it's the worst. Overall it's pretty good. I never really use the delay fwiw

Dr. Scientist RRR - Great reverb. Very musical and it likes feeding dirt pedals. I could never find the sweet spot on the Level knob so it would usually boost my signal. I'd like to try it again though.

OBNE Procession - Really cool, really fun. Freeze function is awesome. It had a volume boost that I couldn't tame, which kind of ruined it for me.

Strymon Blue Sky - Really regret selling it. Easy to dial a subtle tone as well as huge and ambient pads. Never used the shimmer much but I did like setting it up for mod plate and standard spring. Probably my favorite overall.

Ghost Echo - Great character, very moody. Has a predelay that couldn't be dialed out, which was a feature I didn't care for. It was too subtle in a band mix, but makes a great "always on" effect.

Boss RV-5 - Pretty good reverb. It would make a good stand by, but didn't really blow me away.

Eventide Space - KILLER. Almost too killer. Amazing sounds possible, but it is to big and crazy. I also had a PitchFactor and TimeLine when I was running it and I felt that it was just too much having three powerhouse pedals when I didn't have any good midi-control. It was awesome in my drone tabletop setup, but I found it too easy to get lost in. Having one pedal you can endlessly tweak is great, having three is overwhelming.

Mr. Black Supermoon - Very moody sounding, great character and texture. Overall it is too subtle in a dense band mix, wish I could have pulled the trigger on a Chrome. Another great "always on" pedal.

EHX Cathedral - Really interesting pedal. I'm still figuring out how all the controls interact on different settings. It's kind of tricky to dial it in, but the infinite switch is cool and the different modes all sound great. Lack of trails is kind of a bummer though.

I think I would be happy with a Digiverb or RV7 at the front of my chain, for gated mode, and something massive and ambient at the end. I might try to flip my Supermoon for a Digitech Supernatural. Digitech makes my favorite "can find almost anywhere" reverb.

I should note that I mainly like big assed ambient reverb tones. If I was content with a more subtle verb sound I would probably still just run a Holy Grail.

TL;DR: Reverb is tight. I'm always going to want to try a new reverb pedal.
